Specialty & Enrichment Instructor

The CHASCO Family YMCA is seeking a creative, energetic, and dependable individual to join our team as a Specialty & Enrichment Instructor . This position will help plan and lead fun, engaging enrichment programs for children and families.

Our current need is for someone who can lead cooking classes , but we are also looking for someone who can help us grow our enrichment programming. Programs may include cooking and baking, arts and crafts, painting, LEGO/building activities, STEM, seasonal programs, and other youth and family enrichment opportunities.

The ideal candidate is creative, organized, dependable, comfortable leading groups of children, and able to help develop and implement new program ideas.

This is a part-time position with weekday evening availability needed. Additional hours may be available for special events, one-day programs, holiday programming, and other enrichment opportunities. During the summer, additional Monday-Friday daytime hours may be available to help plan and lead enrichment activities for summer camp programming.

Essential Responsibilities:

● Plans, organizes, and leads engaging, age-appropriate specialty and enrichment classes and activities

● Develops and implements lesson plans and activities for assigned programs

● Leads cooking and baking classes and may lead other enrichment programs based on experience, interests, and program needs

● Helps develop new enrichment classes, activities, and program ideas

● Provides active supervision of children and maintains a fun, safe, and welcoming learning environment

● Prepares program areas, materials, ingredients, supplies, and equipment before each class

● Ensures classes are set up, begin, and end on time

● Maintains an organized system of program supplies and inventory and communicates supply needs to leadership

● Follows YMCA safety policies, program procedures, and check-in/check-out expectations

● Maintains appropriate classroom management while encouraging participation, creativity, and confidence

● Builds positive relationships and communicates effectively with children, parents, members, participants, and staff

● Maintains program areas, supplies, and equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly manner

● Completes and maintains required program records and documentation

● Assists with special events, one-day programs, holiday programs, and other youth and family enrichment programming as needed

● May assist with planning and leading enrichment activities for summer camp programming

● Works collaboratively with leadership to identify opportunities to grow and improve enrichment programming

● Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

● Must be at least 17 years of age; 18 or older preferred

● High School Diploma or GED preferred

● Minimum of 12 months of related specialty experience for Specialty Instructor I or 24 months for Specialty Instructor II

● Experience working with children and leading group activities

● Experience with cooking, baking, arts and crafts, painting, LEGO/building activities, STEM, sewing, or other enrichment programming preferred

● Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate lessons and activities

● Creative and comfortable helping develop new program ideas

● Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills

● Ability to actively supervise groups of children and maintain a safe program environment

● Ability to understand, follow, and consistently enforce YMCA policies, safety procedures, and program expectations

● Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification within the first 30 days of employment

● Must successfully complete required background screening, including criminal history and any other pre-employment requirements established by the YMCA

Pay Rate: $15.00-$19.00/hour
