Senior Software Engineer, Embedded Systems

We are looking for a PLC Integration Engineer to own the network and control-system layer of Laminar’s customer deployments. This is a hands-on technical role at the intersection of industrial automation, IT/OT networking, and edge software — you will be the person who gets Laminar’s sensors and edge devices online, stable, and talking to Food and Beverage factory control systems. 
You will work directly with customer IT and OT teams to configure networks, commission PLC connections, and troubleshoot integration issues from first install through steady-state operation. When things break, you dig in and fix them. When patterns emerge, you document them, so the next deployment moves faster. 
This role is a launchpad. Engineers who thrive here grow into edge software engineering, senior FDE roles with full account ownership, or go-to-market paths in sales and solutions engineering.

What You Will Do

- Acquisition & Conditioning: Own the sensing signal chain, covering ADC acquisition and timing, filtering, integration and averaging strategy, and calibration.

- Sensor Integration: Integrate new detectors and sensing elements as our sensor lineup evolves. Own integration, supporting board bring-up through production-ready drivers.

- Noise Rejection: Get the real signal out of noisy environments. Tackle challenges like vibration, EMI, thermal drift, and more.

- Firmware development: Develop firmware in Zephyr to interface with new detectors into our existing modular sensor stack

- Calibration: Build the firmware side of calibration, including on-device coefficient storage, third party calibration procedures, and the final provisioning process for our sensors.

- Device Connectivity: Ship drivers, OTA, and health monitoring for our sensors to carry data up to our Edge Gateway.

About You

- 4+ years of experience building embedded software for sensors or instrumentation.

- Track record of owning the design, implementation, and success of significant components within a larger system.

- Comfortable defining technical direction, taking ownership, and delivering in a fast-paced product iteration cycle.

- Strong embedded C/C++ on microcontrollers with production Zephyr experience. You are fluent in devicetree, Kconfig, west, and the device driver model.

- You have designed filters, tackled sampling and aliasing, and designed and debugged signal chains.

- Comfortable with analog: ADCs, gain, references, grounding, and noise.

- Testing heavy, pushing for unit tests, hardware mocks, CI, and collecting realistic data.

- Experience with optical and electrical sensing and emitters.

- Experience productionizing new sensing methodologies, from prototype to deployed product.

Our Interview Process
1. Phone screen with Laminar Head of Ops or Recruiter (15-20 minutes)
2. Intro call with Hiring Manager (30 minutes)
3. On-site interview, including short tour of GTL, overview of tech, and interview/presentation with the Hiring Manager and a few team members. Depending on the role, a skills exercise that should take no longer than an hour to prep, would be sent ahead of time. We record your skills exercise to share with any team members who could not join the interview and/or with Founder's ahead of their Founder's Interview. If you are not local, we can conduct this virtually.
4. Finalists for Full-Time positions will have a Founder’s Interview in-person
