Job Summary: Sterilization Assistant (Sterilization Technician)

The Sterilization Assistant is part of and supports the clinical team. This role is directly responsible for the safe handling and cleaning of clinical and surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies in an efficient manner to ensure the clinical team can perform patient care on time.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Always ensure the care and welfare of self, patients, and employees in a friendly, helpful, and courteous manner.

- Observe patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.

- Properly cleans and disinfects all dental instruments, equipment, and surfaces used during dental procedures to the required standards.

- Ensure that clinical tools and equipment are properly cleaned and sterilized before procedures begin.

- Breaks down and cleans operatories after use.

- Keep operatories stocked with necessary supplies as directed.

- Keep the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy, and sterile as appropriate according to health and safety and infection control procedures and manufacturers instructions

- Clean all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order

- Be familiar and comply with all Health and Safety rules and guidance infection control and ensure safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste.

- Unpackage supplies and stock as directed.

- Assist other members of the team with patient care.

- Other office tasks as assigned during clinical downtime.

Education and Experience

- Highschool diploma required.

- BLS Certification required

- 6 months of prior clinical experience preferred

- Fluent in English required and Spanish as second language is a plus.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to withstand prolonged periods of standing

- Ability to move within the office as needed for cleaning.

- Ability to lift to 0-15 pounds if necessary.
