Billing Senior Associate

Grant Thornton is seeking a Billing Senior Associate to join the team in Downers Grove, IL.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Senior Billing Processor with SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud experience to support the timely and accurate processing of client invoices and billing transactions.

This role manages billing activities from data review through invoice distribution, reconciliation, and issue resolution. The Senior Billing Processor works with project teams, Finance, Collections, Customer Service, and other stakeholders to ensure invoices meet contractual requirements, financial policies, and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

Billing Processing and Invoice Generation

- Process and distribute customer invoices in accordance with billing schedules, contractual requirements, and company policies.

- Review billable activities, expenses, adjustments, and supporting data for completeness and accuracy.

- Generate and monitor invoices using SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud.

- Maintain billing records and supporting documentation.

SAP S/4HANA Billing Operations

- Execute billing and invoicing activities in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud.

- Review customer, contract, rate, project, and financial master data to support accurate billing.

- Monitor billing blocks, exceptions, and workflow approvals, coordinating resolution as needed.

- Support system testing and validation of billing processes during implementations, enhancements, and upgrades.

Billing Analysis and Reconciliation

- Investigate billing discrepancies, processing errors, customer inquiries, and invoicing exceptions.

- Reconcile billing records with project data and financial reports.

- Analyze exceptions, identify root causes, and coordinate corrective action with project managers, Finance teams, and business stakeholders.

- Support month-end and year-end billing activities.

Compliance and Controls

- Review billing transactions for compliance with contract terms, customer requirements, financial policies, internal controls, and company procedures.

- Maintain accurate documentation for invoices, billing transactions, and adjustments.

- Support internal and external audit requests related to billing activities.

Customer and Stakeholder Support

- Respond to billing inquiries from internal and external customers.

- Partner with project teams, Finance, Collections, and Customer Service to resolve billing issues.

- Communicate billing status, risks, and exceptions to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.

- Contribute to process improvements that enhance billing efficiency, accuracy, and control effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

- Three or more years of experience in billing, invoicing, accounts receivable, or financial transaction processing.

- Experience with SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud or SAP ERP billing processes.

- Strong understanding of billing controls, invoice generation, and financial reconciliation.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and reporting tools.

- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in professional services, consulting, or project-based billing environments.

- Knowledge of project accounting, time-and-expense billing, and revenue recognition concepts.

- Experience supporting ERP implementations or system conversions.

- Familiarity with customer master data, contract management, and billing workflows.

- Understanding of internal controls, audit requirements, and compliance standards.

The base salary range for this position is between $68,000 and $90,000. Placement within the pay range is at Grant Thornton’s discretion, and it is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, progression within the role, geographic location, and internal equity.
