Senior Controls Engineer (Electrical Engineer) Job Description We are seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to design, program, implement, and optimize industrial automation systems within a manufacturing and industrial environment. You will lead controls-related projects from concept through deployment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-quality automation solutions. This role combines deep technical expertise in electrical controls and automation with project leadership responsibilities, providing the opportunity to influence system design, drive process improvements, and support ongoing operations. Responsibilities

- Lead controls engineering activities for multiple projects simultaneously, from initial concept through deployment and support.
- Design and develop electrical control systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts for industrial applications.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and other industrial control systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to other engineering team members to support their development and project success.
- Manage project schedules, deliverables, budgets, and technical scope to ensure projects meet quality, cost, and timeline objectives.
- Support system testing, startup, and commissioning activities, ensuring that automation systems perform as specified and meet safety and quality standards.
- Diagnose and resolve issues during equipment startup and operation, including troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and related control hardware and software.
- Collaborate closely with operations, manufacturing, and engineering teams to ensure successful project execution and smooth integration into production environments.
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical and industrial safety standards throughout design, implementation, and operation.
- Provide ongoing support, maintenance, and continuous improvement for existing automation systems to enhance reliability, performance, and efficiency.
- Lead or contribute to process improvement initiatives focused on optimizing equipment performance and manufacturing operations.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities and communications to align stakeholders and maintain clear visibility into project status and risks.
- Travel occasionally to customer or project sites to support implementation, startup, troubleshooting, and customer interactions.

Essential Skills

- 6+ years of controls engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong background in electrical engineering and electrical controls design for industrial automation systems.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming, including development, modification, and troubleshooting of control logic.
- Experience with HMI programming, including interface design, configuration, and integration with PLCs and control systems.
- Proficiency in designing electrical control systems, schematics, and panel layouts for industrial equipment.
- Demonstrated project leadership experience managing technical scope, schedules, and deliverables.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical and industrial safety standards and their practical application in design and implementation.
- Experience in industrial automation and controls engineering, including equipment startup and commissioning.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems, including diagnosing issues during startup and operation.
- Experience in process improvement within manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced technical environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced technical environment with changing priorities and project demands.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to support project implementation and customer needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred.
- Associate degree in a relevant discipline with significant automation, controls, or manufacturing experience may be considered.
- Experience managing projects and coordinating cross-functional teams in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Prior experience supporting equipment startup, troubleshooting, and process improvements in industrial environments.
- background in automation engineering and controls engineering, including hands-on work with industrial equipment and systems.
- Experience with industrial automation technologies and tools used for system design, programming, and commissioning.
- Ability to provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced engineers and technicians.
- Comfort working on both new system implementations and enhancements to existing automation systems.

Work Environment This role operates in a combination of office, manufacturing, and field support environments. You will work in a collaborative team setting with regular interaction across engineering, operations, and manufacturing groups. The position involves hands-on involvement with industrial equipment and automation systems, including time spent on the production floor and at customer or project sites. Work arrangements may be flexible based on project and business needs, balancing on-site and office-based activities. Occasional travel is required to support project implementation, equipment startup, troubleshooting, and customer interaction
Job Type & Location

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $125000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
