Campus Director

The Opportunity

The Bowery Mission is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Campus Director to lead our Bowery Campus and help create a safe, welcoming, Christ-centered community where individuals can grow in relationship with God and others.  As a key member of Program leadership, the Campus Director provides strategic and day-to-day leadership for campus operations, staff, safety, hospitality, and program services. This leader works across departments to ensure cohesive services, strong teamwork, excellent care, and effective stewardship of people and resources.  The Campus Director will lead and develop staff, strengthen campus culture, oversee program operations and outcomes, manage community partnerships and assigned resources, and help ensure the Bowery Campus consistently reflects The Bowery Mission’s values and Principles of Care.

What You Will Do

Lead and develop the campus team. Create and sustain a unified, collaborative ministry culture rooted in The Bowery Mission’s values. Lead campus communication and meetings, coach and develop team members, strengthen supervision and training, support hiring and talent development, and ensure effective staffing and coverage.

Oversee safe and effective campus operations. Partner with Facilities, Volunteer Services, Logistics, program teams, and other departments to maintain a safe, caring, trauma-informed environment. Oversee campus safety practices, security and fire-safety procedures, emergency response, building needs, space utilization, and Gift-in-Kind operations.

Create an exceptional culture of hospitality. Ensure guests, clients, alumni, volunteers, donors, community partners, vendors, and other visitors are warmly welcomed and appropriately oriented to the campus. Continually improve customer service and help create welcoming, organized, trauma-informed spaces. Lead campus tours and help host major events, including Thanksgiving and other partner, volunteer, and organizational gatherings.

Lead program management and outcomes. In partnership with senior program leadership, oversee services for guests, clients, and alumni, including chapel, community meals, clothing and shower services, social work support, residential programming, and Alumni Transitional Housing. Ensure programs reflect best practices, Christian principles, and a seamless continuum of care.

Build strong community partnerships. Develop relationships with neighbors, businesses, community-based organizations, the local precinct, fire station, and other partners. Represent The Bowery Mission in the community and help connect individuals and programs with external resources.

Steward resources and drive accountability. Support management of the assigned budget, monitor expenditures, contribute to annual budget planning, and ensure accurate program records, reporting, documentation, data integrity, confidentiality, and incident reporting.

What You Bring

We are looking for a seasoned leader who combines strong operational and people-management skills with a heart for Christian ministry and service to individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Required qualifications include:

- 8+ years of relevant work experience serving the population or working in a similar setting, including 5 years of management experience

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field

- Demonstrated experience forming, leading, coaching, and developing teams

- Nonprofit program leadership and management experience, including change management, budget management, and managing toward measurable outcomes

- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, safety standards, conflict resolution, confidentiality standards, and the needs of the population served

- Ability to integrate Christ-centered care with leadership and client-care best practices

- Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, conflict-management, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred: Master’s degree in social services, Christian ministry or leadership, Public Administration, Public Health, or a related field. Preferred professional credentials include LMHC, LMSW, LCSW, or CASAC.

The successful candidate will also have or be able to obtain within six months relevant certifications including Mental Health First Aid, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, F-80 (per FDNY), First Aid/CPR, and Naloxone administration.

Leadership Scope

The Campus Director provides direct and indirect leadership across multiple Bowery Campus program functions and works collaboratively with leaders throughout The Bowery Mission. The campus serves thousands of guests annually while providing residential, spiritual formation, meals, showers, clothing, Day Center, and other services.

Schedule & Additional Requirements

This is an on-site leadership role requiring flexibility beyond traditional business hours. In rotation with other Program leaders, the Campus Director provides on-call coverage and must be available to respond on-site to after-hours emergencies. The role also requires presence during select evenings, weekends, and holidays.

A satisfactory background check is required. Approximately 5% travel is expected.

Salary commensurate with relevant education & experience: $105,000 - $115,000
