DC BRIDGE builds the software that makes AWS data centers, and the people who operate them, more efficient, so AWS stays ahead of its physical growth. Every data center depends on electrical, mechanical, and controls equipment staying within limits. We build the services that monitor that equipment at fleet scale (trillions of metrics a month), turn the alarm firehose into signal operators can act on, route work to the engineers who run the buildings, and keep the devices in those buildings on the right software. What we ship affects the availability and efficiency of the infrastructure behind AWS.

This is a builder role on a team that ships. Small groups of SDEs own their services end-to-end and deploy to production several times a week. As an SDE II you own features from design through operation. Your customers, the engineers who run the buildings, are a message away. Our generative AI strategy is still forming; your prototypes shape it.

Tech stack: Java, Python, and TypeScript, with Kotlin, Go, and Rust in specific services. AWS CDK and CloudFormation. Lambda, ECS, Fargate, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, S3, Kinesis, Step Functions, API Gateway, CloudWatch, Athena, Amazon Bedrock. Amazon's internal CI/CD. AI-assisted development tools daily.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate distributed services for data center infrastructure: metric ingestion and stream processing at fleet scale; alarm evaluation, suppression, correlation, and deduplication; automated triage and routing; telemetry persistence and analytics; and the services and on-device agents that manage industrial control devices.
- Build the integrations that route alarms and tickets to operations teams with the context they need to resolve them faster.
- Apply generative AI where it earns its place: integrate services such as Amazon Bedrock for summarization, pattern detection, and triage assistance, and use AI-assisted development tools to prototype, test, and review faster. Integrate and measure, not train models.
- Drive efficiency at scale: simplify systems, deprecate what the fleet no longer needs, and cut the cost per metric and per device as the fleet grows.
- Define infrastructure as code with AWS CDK, wire up CI/CD, and own what you deploy.
- Author designs with trade-off analysis and give meaningful feedback in design reviews.
- Join on-call, find root causes, write permanent fixes, and drive the practices that keep quality high.
- Mentor earlier-career engineers through code review and pairing, including effective use of AI tools while keeping code ownership and understanding.

A day in the life
Your morning might start with standup, sharing progress on a new alarm evaluation or device management feature, then a code review where you give thoughtful feedback to an SDE I. You spend a focused block writing service or stream-processing code, or CDK to wire up a new pipeline, then debug a production issue that surfaced overnight, finding the root cause and writing a permanent fix. After lunch you join a design review, asking the questions that surface unstated assumptions. You wrap up walking through alarm or tooling feedback with a data center operations or controls team, turning what you hear into the next improvement.

DC BRIDGE teams operate with high ownership and autonomy over their services end-to-end, from design through production operation. Each team is a small group of SDEs who run everything they build. Our mission is to give the people who run Amazon's data centers a clear, trustworthy picture of the fleet and the tools to act on it: every alarm should mean something, every metric should be worth what it costs to process, and every device should be running the software it should. As an SDE II you'll be a core autonomous contributor: owning features, raising the bar in reviews, and helping more junior engineers grow.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or professional experience equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience building or operating software for data center infrastructure (electrical, mechanical, or controls systems; BMS, EPMS, or SCADA; alarm, telemetry, or ticketing platforms), or hands-on data center operations experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
