Manufacturing Engineer-Night Shift

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer (Night Shift) serves as the primary engineering and technical support resource for night shift operations. This position works closely with Production, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment and facility systems. The role focuses on equipment reliability, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, maintenance support, and execution of engineering projects. Primary work schedule is 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Support & Equipment Reliability:

- Serve as the primary engineering support resource for all night shift manufacturing operations.

- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance for production equipment, facility systems, and maintenance activities.

- Diagnose and support resolution of mechanical, electrical, controls, hydraulic, pneumatic, and process-related equipment issues.

- Support maintenance technicians during emergency equipment breakdowns and complex troubleshooting situations.

- Analyze recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and uptime.

- Assist in commissioning, startup, and optimization of new equipment and process improvements.

Controls & Automation:

- Troubleshoot and maintain PLC, HMI, VFD, motion control, and industrial network communication systems.

- Support Allen-Bradley, Parker, and other automation platforms used throughout the facility.

- Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and PLC ladder logic.

- Coordinate with outside vendors and technical support resources when specialized assistance is required.

Maintenance Systems & Planning:

- Support preventative and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability.

- Maintain accuracy and effectiveness of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS/E-Maintenance).

- Generate, review, and improve preventive maintenance procedures and work instructions.

- Assist with management of critical spare parts inventory to ensure equipment availability and minimize downtime.

- Participate in equipment reliability initiatives and root cause failure analysis activities.

Engineering & Capital Projects:

- Support engineering and capital improvement projects including design, budgeting, procurement, installation, and startup activities.

- Coordinate project activities with production, maintenance, contractors, and vendors.

- Develop and maintain technical documentation, equipment standards, and project records.

- Assist in training maintenance and production personnel on new equipment and processes.

Continuous Improvement & Safety:

- Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability.

- Apply Lean Manufacturing, 6S, and problem-solving methodologies to improve operational performance.

- Promote and support a safe work environment through compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Integrated Management System (IMS) Responsibilities

- Participate in continuous improvement and process optimization activities.

- Support development, review, and maintenance of documented procedures and work instructions.

- Understand and comply with all IMS policies and requirements.

- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to assigned responsibilities.

- Participate in internal and external audits as required.

- Support environmental, quality, safety, and customer-specific requirements.

- Demonstrate commitment to company values through personal compliance and leadership by example.

Desired Qualifications

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field preferred.

Experience:

- 3-7 years of manufacturing engineering, maintenance engineering, controls engineering, or industrial maintenance experience.

- Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment in a continuous process manufacturing environment.

- Experience supporting maintenance and reliability programs preferred.

- Experience in web handling, converting, film, paper, coating, or similar roll-to-roll manufacturing processes is highly desirable.

Technical Skills:

- Working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and industrial controls.

- Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms and industrial networking.

- Understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance methodologies.

- Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and PLC ladder logic.

- Experience with AutoCAD, RS Logix/Studio 5000, Ignition, Microsoft Office, and CMMS systems preferred.

- Knowledge of boilers, chillers, HVAC, and facility utility systems preferred.

Tools and Equipment Used

- Standard hand tools and maintenance equipment.

- Electrical diagnostic equipment including voltmeters, amp meters, and multimeters.

- Computer systems, engineering software, PLC programming software, and CMMS applications.

Physical Requirements

- Frequently stand, walk, climb stairs, and move throughout the manufacturing facility.

- Occasionally work from ladders, lifts, or elevated platforms.

- Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

- Ability to work safely around operating manufacturing equipment.

Work Environment

- Manufacturing facility environment with moving machinery and industrial equipment.

- Exposure to electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

- Occasional exposure to noise requiring hearing protection.

- Required use of personal protective equipment as designated by company policy.

- Occasional weekend work and limited travel may be required.

- Must be available to respond to critical equipment issues during scheduled support hours.
