Junior Software Engineer, Edge Platform

We’re looking for an exceptional Senior Software Engineer, Edge Platform to own components of and build out Laminar’s next-generation edge computing platform. You’ll shape how our software, ML models, and LLM workloads run on Linux-based edge devices and factory-deployed servers. This is a hands-on role with ownership from early architecture and prototyping through production deployment. We’re looking for someone who can turn open-ended challenges into reliable systems, make thoughtful technical decisions, and help other engineers grow along the way.

What You Will Do

- Software Development: Build and maintain Linux services, scripts, and tools supporting our edge platform.

- System Provisioning: Help automate the setup and configuration of edge computers and factory-deployed servers.

- Application Deployment: Support packaging, testing, and deployment of applications using containers and virtual machines.

- Industrial Connectors: Implement and test integrations for the industrial communication protocol our customers use, including Modbus TCP/IP, Profinet , OPC UA, CC-Link, and EtherNet /IP. You’ll work through your design with a senior engineer and own the implementation.

- Platform Reliability: Contribute to software updates, logging, monitoring, and recovery capabilities for deployed systems.

- Debugging & Testing: Investigate service failures, networking issues, and resource usage. Develop tests that improve reliability across deployment environments.

- Edge AI Integration: Support the integration and testing of ML inference workloads on edge hardware.

- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with the senior engineer and broader engineering team to deliver features and resolve platform issues.

- Documentation: Maintain clear setup instructions, technical documentation, and troubleshooting guides.

About You

- High initiative and strong follow-through. You ask thoughtful questions, seek feedback, and take responsibility for your work.

- Ability to learn quickly and work successfully in a fast-paced team environment.

- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

- Good hands-on Linux experience, including the command line, permissions, processes, services, package management, and logs.

- Experience programming in a language such as Python, Rust, C++, or Go, and familiarity with shell scripting.

- Understanding of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, DNS, ports, and TCP/IP.

- Familiarity with Git and a methodical approach to testing and debugging.

- Academic, personal, internship, or professional projects demonstrating your ability to build and troubleshoot working systems.

- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

- Experience with Docker, virtual machines, systemd , or a personal Linux server is a plus, as is an interest in running ML models locally.

Our Interview Process
1. Phone screen with Laminar Head of Ops or Recruiter (15-20 minutes)
2. Intro call with Hiring Manager (30 minutes)
3. On-site interview, including short tour of GTL, overview of tech, and interview/presentation with the Hiring Manager and a few team members. Depending on the role, a skills exercise that should take no longer than an hour to prep, would be sent ahead of time. We record your skills exercise to share with any team members who could not join the interview and/or with Founder's ahead of their Founder's Interview. If you are not local, we can conduct this virtually.
4. Finalists for Full-Time positions will have a Founder’s Interview in-person

Two professional references are requested, ideally one from your current organization and one who served as your Manager
If an Offer Letter is extended, a Background check is conducted
