RN, Infection Prevention Control CEPS (4528)

Position Summary:

The RN, Infection Prevention Control CEPS supports the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program by conducting data abstraction, surveillance, and reporting activities that advance patient safety and regulatory compliance. This role partners closely with the IPC Coordinator to monitor trends in healthcare-associated infections, evaluate risk factors, and support targeted interventions that reduce transmission across care settings. Working collaboratively with clinical units, environmental services, laboratory staff, and leadership, the RN promotes best practices and ensures timely, accurate communication of infection-prevention findings. As part of a collaborative, safety-focused team, this position strengthens infection-prevention performance and supports a culture of safety throughout Trinity Health.

Key Responsibilities:

- Abstract, enter, and validate infection-prevention data for NHSN and internal reporting systems in alignment with regulatory and organizational requirements.

- Conduct surveillance of targeted infections, environmental risks, and clinical practices to identify trends and support timely mitigation efforts.

- Collaborate with the IPC Coordinator to develop, implement, and evaluate infection-prevention initiatives that improve patient and staff safety.

- Communicate surveillance findings to clinical departments, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to support education and corrective actions.

- Maintain accurate documentation, prepare reports, and assist with audits or readiness activities related to regulatory compliance and accreditation.

- Provide guidance to staff regarding infection-control practices, standard precautions, and policy adherence to strengthen systemwide prevention efforts.

Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications Required:

- Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN licensure.

Educational Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

Experience Requirements:

- Must have three (3) years of clinical experience in a health care setting.

- Strong critical thinking skills.

Special Skills or Training Requirements:

- Demonstrated advanced communication, problem solving skills and interpersonal skills with all levels of internal and external customers.

- Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, internet, email, graphing, etc.

Physical Requirements:

The RN, Infection Prevention Control CEPS spends extended periods sitting or standing while reviewing records, performing surveillance activities, and entering data. The role requires periodic walking throughout clinical and support areas, as well as occasional lifting or carrying of educational materials or supplies. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are essential for analyzing clinical information, conducting environmental observations, and operating computer systems.

Environmental Requirements:

This position works in both office and clinical settings, with potential exposure to infectious agents, bodily fluids, and environmental contaminants while conducting surveillance activities. Strict adherence to PPE usage, infection-control protocols, and safety practices is required. The work environment includes managing multiple tasks, engaging with diverse departments, and responding to time-sensitive issues related to patient and staff safety.
