Position Summary:
The Activities Aide supports the delivery of a structured, person-centered activities program designed to enhance the emotional, social, and cognitive well-being of residents. This role assists with planning, preparing, and facilitating recreational activities that align with each resident’s individualized care plan while encouraging engagement, independence, and meaningful daily experiences. Working closely with the activities team and care staff, the Activities Aide helps foster a supportive, positive environment for residents with varying physical and cognitive abilities. This position plays an important role in contributing to overall quality of life within the facility through compassionate interaction, teamwork, and consistent support of resident-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing, organizing, and leading group and individual activities based on resident interests, abilities, and care plans.
- Encourage resident participation and provide appropriate support, redirection, or assistance to promote meaningful engagement.
- Document resident involvement, behavioral responses, and attendance accurately in accordance with facility guidelines.
- Set up and clean activity areas before and after events, ensuring spaces remain safe, organized, and accessible.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members to support coordinated care.
- Observe resident behavior, report changes or concerns promptly, and collaborate with nursing and social services teams as needed.

Educational Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED certificate
Experience Requirements:
- Prefer experience and knowledge in working with elderly people in Activities, arts/crafts, or music helpful.
- Need good interaction skills with people

Physical Requirements:
The work requires regular standing, walking, bending, and assisting residents throughout activity sessions. The Activities Aide must be able to push wheelchairs, move small equipment, and lift or carry activity supplies up to 25 pounds. This position involves extended periods of interaction, requiring verbal communication, visual focus, and the ability to respond quickly to resident needs. Occasional assistance with resident mobility may be required, following proper safety and transfer techniques.
Environmental Requirements:
The role is performed in a long-term care environment with frequent resident interaction, varying noise levels, and ongoing activity transitions. Activities may occur indoors or outdoors depending on weather and programming needs. The Activities Aide must be adaptable to changing resident behaviors, varying cognitive levels, and potential exposure to infection control situations typical of healthcare settings. Consistent adherence to safety protocols, confidentiality standards, and facility policies are required.
