Electrical Engineer

Job Title: Electrical Engineer Job Description This hands-on Electrical Engineering role supports U.S. Navy submarine systems with a focus on electronics, circuit card assemblies, embedded hardware, and troubleshooting. You will work directly with circuit card assemblies, embedded electronics, radar, imaging, and electronic warfare systems while contributing to fleet sustainment and modernization efforts. The position is well suited for an early-career electrical engineer who enjoys working in a lab environment, diagnosing and repairing hardware, and solving complex technical problems both in the lab and at operational sites. Responsibilities

- Troubleshoot electrical circuit card assemblies used in radar, imaging, and electronic warfare systems, identifying and resolving component-level and board-level issues.
- Understand, develop, and update electrical drawings and schematics to support design, analysis, and troubleshooting activities.
- Perform performance analysis of antenna equipment and digital signal processing functions to support sensor and signal processing efforts.
- Assess installation and system requirements to determine equipment layout and integration approaches for submarine and related systems.
- Develop, review, and execute detailed test plans and test procedures to validate hardware performance and system functionality.
- Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, power meters, and other test equipment to conduct diagnostics, measurements, and verification testing on electronic assemblies.
- Troubleshoot radar systems and related electronics at various Naval bases throughout the country, providing on-site technical support and problem resolution.
- Support fielded Navy systems by diagnosing issues in legacy electronics and recommending repair, replacement, or modernization strategies.
- Analyze system performance using engineering tools and methods, including MATLAB-based analysis for sensor and signal processing applications.
- Develop and maintain electrical drawings and schematics that accurately reflect system configurations and design updates.
- Create technical assessments, risk assessments, and technical recommendations that clearly communicate findings, risks, and proposed solutions.
- Produce and maintain Technical Data Packages, including design documentation, test records, and configuration information.
- Support equipment validation activities by planning and executing tests, documenting results, and assisting with corrective actions.
- Assist with fleet sustainment by helping to maintain operational readiness of submarine systems and supporting modernization initiatives.
- Collaborate with a team-oriented group of engineers and technicians, sharing knowledge and supporting cross-functional problem solving.
- Travel approximately 10% of the time to support troubleshooting, testing, and integration activities at Navy installations and other sites.

Essential Skills

- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong electrical engineering fundamentals, including circuit theory, electronics, and hardware design concepts.
- Knowledge of electrical circuits and electronics, including experience working with circuit card assemblies.
- Ability to read, understand, and develop electrical schematics and drawings.
- Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes for signal measurement and analysis.
- Hands-on experience using multimeters for voltage, current, and resistance measurements.
- Hands-on experience using power meters or related test equipment for power measurement and verification.
- Exposure to embedded systems and embedded hardware concepts.
- Practical troubleshooting experience diagnosing and repairing electronic hardware and circuit boards.
- Ability to perform hardware testing using standard laboratory test equipment and procedures.
- Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
- Ability to learn independently and adapt to new systems and technologies.
- Strong teamwork skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Exposure to Digital Signal Processing (DSP) concepts and applications.
- Experience using MATLAB for analysis, modeling, or data processing.
- Experience with Python for scripting, automation, or data analysis.
- Experience with C or C++ for embedded or low-level software interaction with hardware.
- Experience with circuit board design using tools such as Altium or similar PCB design software.
- Experience with PCB troubleshooting, including component-level diagnostics and rework.
- Exposure to Linux operating systems in an engineering or development environment.
- Exposure to network architecture concepts and networked systems.
- Experience with general hardware design, testing, and verification processes.
- Familiarity with developing or reviewing Technical Data Packages and technical documentation.
- Interest in radar, imaging, and electronic warfare systems and willingness to deepen knowledge in these domains.

Work Environment You will work primarily in a laboratory environment focused on hands-on electronics, hardware testing, and troubleshooting. The role involves frequent use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, power meters, and other electronic test equipment to evaluate and repair circuit card assemblies and embedded systems. You will collaborate closely with other engineers and technical staff in a team-oriented setting that values independent learning, problem solving, and knowledge sharing. The position includes approximately 10% travel to Naval bases and other operational sites to support radar systems, perform troubleshooting, and assist with equipment validation and integration activities. Work is centered on supporting and modernizing operational submarine systems, with a mix of lab-based analysis and field support in professional, technical environments.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $95000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
