## Project Overview:

Bechtel Energy is executing a portfolio of large-scale projects globally with a current focus along the U.S. Gulf Coast. The Energy GBU Innovation team supports these projects by identifying, evaluating, piloting, and scaling emerging hardware and software technologies that improve the safety, productivity, schedule certainty, and data quality of field execution.

## Job Summary:

In this role, you will take emerging technologies out of the demonstration stage and prove them on live construction sites. You will execute the field pilots, proofs of concept, and initial deployments that determine whether a technology earns a permanent place in Bechtel's execution model, and you will translate what the field tells you into requirements, test criteria, and lessons learned that the rest of the portfolio can reuse.

You will work inside a small, cross-functional innovation team and alongside Project Field Engineers, Responsible Field Engineers, Superintendents, Construction Automation, IS&T, Procurement, ES&H, and Quality. Your assignments will typically be a defined technology area or a single initiative within a larger deployment scope, executed within an agreed schedule and cost. By doing this work, you directly contribute to new technology exploration and to the safer, better, faster, and leaner execution of our projects.

## Major Responsibilities:

- Executes the scope, schedule, and cost of assigned innovation initiatives for a medium-sized project or a particular technology area, and executes the work assigned to develop or implement parts of a larger initiative.
- Plans and executes proof-of-concept and pilot deployments on active construction projects, including mobilization, setup, commissioning, field testing, troubleshooting, demobilization, and operational handoff.
- Applies engineering judgment to define technology use cases, deployment requirements, field constraints, test criteria, acceptance criteria, and technical success metrics for the initiatives assigned to them.
- Develops pilot execution plans, test procedures, field deployment checklists, technical presentations, close-out reports, lessons learned, and cost/benefit inputs, following the Energy Innovation pilot execution format.
- Serves as the on-site technical point of contact during a deployment, resolving hardware, software, connectivity, and data-integration issues so the pilot stays on schedule and the captured data remains usable.
- Translates field observations, constructability concerns, project pain points, and user feedback into structured technical requirements, vendor questions, risk items, and measurable improvement opportunities.
- Coordinates with vendors, consultants, and third parties on deployment readiness, equipment performance, demonstrations, and technical issue resolution, and participates in the development of the prototype and pilot pipeline.
- Networks and builds relationships with key stakeholders and end users across engineering disciplines, construction leadership, field supervision, and support functions to secure deployment access and drive adoption.
- Supports adoption after the pilot ends by delivering operator and team training, knowledge transfer, and written work instructions so the field can run the capability without innovation team presence.
- Tracks and reports initiative progress against schedule, cost, and success criteria, and collects the deployment data that supports the business case and benefits realization.
- Maintains compliance with Bechtel and project safety, quality, security, and data-handling requirements throughout every deployment, including airspace and flight procedures where drone operations are involved.

## Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience, or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.  Degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, chemical engineering, construction engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical discipline.  Ability to work in field construction environments, comply with project safety requirements, and travel to project sites as required.

## Required Knowledge and Skills:

- Hands-on experience deploying, testing, or supporting hardware and/or software solutions in field, industrial, construction, manufacturing, robotics, research, or oil and gas environments. This is the single most important qualifying factor: the role is judged on getting technology to work outside a laboratory.
- Working knowledge of construction execution sequencing and field engineering practice sufficient to judge whether a technology is practical at the workfront, and to define realistic test and acceptance criteria.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues in the field, adapt solutions to changing project conditions, and hold focus on safety, quality, schedule, cost, and productivity while doing so.
- Ability to develop clear technical documentation, including engineering notes, test plans, deployment plans, field procedures, stakeholder presentations, lessons learned, close-out reports, and business case inputs.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across project teams, vendors, engineering disciplines, construction leadership, field supervision, and support functions, and to gain the confidence of craft and supervision on an active site.
- Basic data literacy: the ability to structure, validate, and interpret deployment and field data well enough to demonstrate whether a technology delivered the benefit it promised.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with one or more of the following: robotics, autonomous systems, remotely operated construction equipment, drones, LiDAR and photogrammetry, IoT sensing and telematics, progress tracking tools, construction analytics, or digital construction workflows.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, or equivalent drone pilot qualification, is a major plus. Candidates with drone experience are encouraged to include drone make, model, flight experience, and flight hours at the top of their resume.
- Basic proficiency with engineering or technical software tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS Workbench, ArcGIS, Autodesk ReCap, AutoCAD, data analytics platforms, or similar applications.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction, or the willingness to obtain it, together with familiarity with site network connectivity and the security considerations of placing connected devices on an operating construction site.
