Electrical Engineer III

Job Title: Electrical Engineer III Job Description The Electrical Engineer III plays a key role in delivering electrical systems engineering for complex new construction projects. This role participates in all phases of design, from requirements decomposition and detailed design preparation through supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and project close-out. The engineer contributes to the design ensuring that all electrical and electronic systems meet customer expectations, classification society rules, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities

- Provide engineering and design support for electrical and electronic systems by preparing comprehensive design and calculation packages that ensure all contract design requirements are met.
- Perform formal and informal trade studies to identify the most efficient engineering solutions and ensure material budgets are met for assigned systems.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to reduce material costs below established budgets while maintaining technical integrity and compliance.
- Develop material specifications and bills of material in alignment with established material strategies and customer requirements.
- Support requirements decomposition and translate high-level system requirements into clear, actionable engineering specifications for electrical systems.
- Contribute to design preparations, supporting analysis, and engineering execution activities throughout the new construction lifecycle.
- Participate in engineering close-out activities, including documentation, reporting, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Use analysis tools and established analytical methods to validate designs, confirm data accuracy, and support collective engineering decision-making.
- Produce clear, detailed technical specifications, procedures, and reports, and present them effectively to internal stakeholders and external parties when required.
- Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary and diversely integrated project teams to ensure electrical systems integrate seamlessly with other systems.
- Analyze change requests, project plans, and design modifications to anticipate potential schedule or budget risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Work independently when required, providing technical guidance on testing, evaluating, and improving engineering outcomes.
- Adhere to and promote a high standard of safety, following all applicable safety laws, policies, and rules during design and execution activities.

Essential Skills

- Bachelors degree in a relevant Engineering or Naval Architecture discipline.
- 5+ years of progressively post-secondary experience in engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Incorporated Engineer designation with a recognized, accredited institution, or eligibility for such designation.
- P.Eng. registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or E.I.T. status with eligibility to apply for P.Eng. registration within one year, preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge and engineering skills, including proficiency with analysis tools and established analytical methods.
- Demonstrated analytical skills to gather, analyze, and synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as part of engineering decision-making.
- Proven technical writing skills with the ability to produce clear, detailed technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
- Understanding of AutoCAD software for engineering design and documentation.
- Working knowledge of document control systems and engineering databases.
- Proficient computer skills, including practical experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work effectively across multi-disciplined and integrated project teams.
- Capability to work without close supervision and provide technical guidance on testing, evaluation, and improvement of engineering outcomes.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to manage tasks, coordinate with stakeholders, and communicate effectively.
- Commitment to high safety standards and adherence to all safety policies, rules, and applicable regulations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Masters degree in a relevant Engineering or Naval Architecture discipline is desirable.
- Experience working with diversely integrated project teams is an advantage.
- Knowledge of MRP, purchasing, and management systems is preferred.
- Ability to perform trade studies and cost optimization analyses for electrical systems.
- Critical thinking skills to evaluate change requests, project impacts, and design alternatives with respect to schedule and budget.
- Strong collaboration skills to support cross-functional programs.

Work Environment This is a full-time, onsite role.

This is a Contract position based out of North Vancouver, BC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $58.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
