Job Title: Technical Support Manager, Polymers (Plastics & Rubber) and Packaging

Location: Pasig City, Philippines

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

About the Role

As a Technical Support Manager, you will drive technical value creation, material specification and commercial growth across the polymers (plastics and rubber) and packaging sectors in the Philippines. Serving plastic and rubber converters, packaging converters, brand owners and industrial end-users, this role is a predominantly customer-facing technical sales and consultative advisory position, working closely with key suppliers and principals.

Working closely as well with local commercial teams and regional technical specialists and commercial leadership team, you will troubleshoot customer processing bottlenecks, recommend tailored specialty chemical and polymer solutions and translate complex technical test data into actionable commercial value for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

- Gather market, converter and brand-owner intelligence in close partnership with local commercial and marketing teams, tracking trends in lightweighting, sustainability, circular economy and processing efficiency.

- Identify customer technical challenges and recommend appropriate specialty polymer resins, rubber compounds, masterbatches and functional additive solutions tailored to converter line capabilities and end-use specifications.

- Coordinate customer sampling, formulation support and prototype requests through the regional/central Caldic application lab or authorized partner facility, ensuring project briefs, target specifications and timelines are clearly communicated.

- Interpret, communicate and apply physical, mechanical and optical property test data (such as tensile strength, elongation, melt flow index, dart impact, hardness, seal strength, barrier properties, haze and gloss) prepared by regional or partner laboratories, helping customers evaluate material performance and processing feasibility.

- Collaborate cross-functionally with local sales teams, regional application scientists and principal technical specialists, managing trial loops and integrating customer feedback to refine technical recommendations.

- Iterate technical solutions and processing recommendations with the regional or partner lab based on line-trial feedback from converters, troubleshooting defects and ensuring processing stability on customer manufacturing lines.

- Develop comprehensive commercial cost analyses, including raw-material cost models and landed-cost comparisons, while guiding customers on packaging format and structure specifications (e.g., monolayer vs. multilayer structures, gauge down-gauging, barrier requirements).

- Manage the technical specification process without operating an on-site laboratory in Manila, serving as the primary technical bridge between local converter plant personnel and partner suppliers/ Caldic regional technical resources to guide trials and qualification

Job Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science/Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or a closely related technical discipline.

- Proven track record in customer-facing technical sales, technical service or technical application advisory within B2B Specialty Chemicals or ingredients distribution, specifically serving the Polymers (Plastics and Rubber) and Packaging sectors, with at least 5 years working directly with converters and brand owners.

- Demonstrates ability to build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients.

- Strong consultative selling skills, with a focus on incremental growth through upselling and cross-selling within an existing customer base.

- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

- Ability to gather insights based on client needs and information, and provide actionable recommendations.

- A high degree of empathy, customer orientation, and commitment to satisfaction.

- Proficiency in MS Office and CRM software.
