The AVP – Employee Relations and Compliance is responsible for developing, governing, and executing the employee relations and HR regulatory compliance framework for the India GCC. This role ensures adherence to applicable labour and employment laws, statutory obligations, employee relations processes, workplace investigations, and compliance governance requirements.
The incumbent will serve as the compliance subject matter expert and governance lead, partnering closely with Legal, Payroll, HR Operations, Facilities, Procurement, external labour compliance vendors, and business leaders to mitigate risk, maintain audit readiness, and ensure an equitable, compliant, and positive employee experience.
The role will be accountable for labour compliance oversight, regulatory monitoring, statutory inspections, compliance audits, policy governance, employee grievance management, disciplinary processes, and employee relations strategy across the India organization.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Regulatory Compliance Governance
– Own and lead the end-to-end employment and labour compliance framework for the India GCC.
– Ensure compliance with applicable Central and State employment laws, labour regulations, and statutory obligations.
– Establish governance mechanisms for monitoring compliance obligations, statutory filings, registrations, renewals, notices, record maintenance, and payments.
– Build and maintain a compliance calendar and compliance dashboard covering all employment-related statutory requirements.
– Monitor regulatory changes and assess business impact, ensuring timely implementation of new compliance requirements.
– Drive compliance awareness and training programs for People leaders and employees.
– Act as the primary compliance escalation point for labour law matters.
2. Labour Law & Statutory Compliance Management
– Oversee compliance with employment related legislation
– Ensure statutory filings, registrations, renewals, inspections, notices, and returns are completed accurately and within timelines.
– Partner with Payroll and HR Operations to ensure all payroll-linked statutory requirements are met.
3. Employee Relations & Workplace Governance
– Develop and execute the Employee Relations strategy for the GCC.
– Lead employee grievance resolution, disciplinary actions, misconduct investigations, workplace complaints, and conflict management.
– Drive fair, consistent, and legally compliant employee relations processes.
– Support leaders with performance-related employee matters, conduct concerns, workplace disputes, and behavioral issues.
– Ensure compliance with internal policies, code of conduct requirements, and ethical standards.
– Partner with Legal where required on complex employee matters and litigation risks.
– Lead workplace investigations and ensure appropriate documentation, governance, and closure.
4. Compliance Vendor & Regulatory Relationship Management
– Manage relationships with external labour compliance vendors and legal advisors.
– Oversee labour law registrations, statutory record maintenance, compliance audits, regulatory filings, and labour inspection support through vendors.
– Coordinate responses to government authorities, inspectors, labour departments, and other regulators.
– Monitor vendor performance through SLAs, audit outcomes, compliance metrics, and governance reviews.
– Serve as the internal liaison for all labour compliance related regulatory interactions.
5. Audit, Risk & Controls
– Lead labour compliance audits and compliance self-assessments.
– Ensure organizational readiness for internal audits, regulatory inspections, external audits, and diligence exercises.
– Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for emerging compliance risks.
– Develop controls to ensure sustainable compliance adherence.
– Drive corrective action tracking and closure of audit observations.
– Maintain evidence repositories and statutory documentation for audit purposes.
6. Policy Governance & Employee Experience
– Own policy governance for employment-related policies and procedures.
– Review, update, and implement policies to align with legislative and organizational requirements.
– Ensure compliance requirements are embedded into employee lifecycle processes including onboarding, transfers, promotions, leave management, separations, contractor management, and workforce engagement.
– Partner with business and People leaders to maintain a positive employee experience while ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
7. Reporting, Analytics & Governance Forums
– Develop compliance dashboards and executive reporting mechanisms.
– Provide regular updates to GCC Leadership and People Leadership teams on compliance status, risks, audits, investigations, and corrective actions.
– Use compliance and employee relations data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in law, Employment Law, Labour Relations, Human Resources, or related discipline.
- Strong understanding of Indian labour laws and employment compliance and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of employee relations and workplace governance practices
- Experience managing employment compliance audits, investigations, and labour inspections.
- Certifications in Labour Laws, Compliance, Industrial Relations, or Compliance Management are preferred.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
– 15+ years of experience in HR Compliance, Employee Relations, Labour Relations, HR Operations, or Industrial Relations.
– Experience in BFSI GCC, multinational corporations, or regulated environments is strongly preferred.
– Experience working with external compliance and payroll vendors.
– Demonstrated experience managing labour inspections, audits, regulatory inquiries, and investigations.
– Strong experience designing scalable compliance governance frameworks.
