As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll dive deep into ground-breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers’ high-value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. As part of our team, you'll contribute your expertise in intricate systems, deciphering code, and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.

Role Responsibilities:

- Design, develop, test, and maintain desktop applications using C++ , C# , and WPF .
- Architect and implement multithreaded and concurrent software solutions to maximize system performance and responsiveness.
- Develop software that interfaces with hardware components, instrumentation, motion control systems, and industrial automation equipment.
- Collaborate with systems, electrical, mechanical, and process engineers to define software requirements and system architectures.
- Optimize application performance, memory utilization, and reliability for mission-critical environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex software, hardware, and integration issues.
- Participate in code reviews and promote software development best practices.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, design specifications, and test procedures.
- Contribute to software architecture decisions and technology roadmaps.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 10-15 years of professional software development experience .
- Strong proficiency in C++ (modern C++ preferred).
- Strong proficiency in C# and .NET development.
- Extensive experience developing desktop applications using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) .
- Demonstrated expertise in multithreaded programming , synchronization mechanisms, and concurrent application design.
- Experience with asynchronous programming patterns and performance optimization.
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented design principles and software architecture patterns.
- Experience using source control systems such as Git, Azure DevOps, or similar.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in the semiconductor equipment, semiconductor manufacturing, inspection, metrology, lithography, test, or automation industries .
- Experience integrating software with hardware devices, cameras, sensors, motion control systems, or instrumentation.
- Familiarity with real-time data acquisition and processing systems.
- Experience with high-performance computing and large data sets.
- Knowledge of design patterns such as MVVM in WPF applications.
- Experience with SQL databases and data-driven applications.
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
- Exposure to SEMI standards and semiconductor manufacturing workflows

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
