About this role
What you'll do
- Design and build backend services and REST APIs using Node.js
- Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries and database schemas
- Own features from design through deployment, including monitoring in production
- Deploy and manage services on AWS
- Collaborate with frontend engineers to define clean API contracts
- Write unit and integration tests, and participate actively in code reviews
- Debug and resolve production issues as part of an on-call rotation
What we're looking for
- 1–2 years of professional coding experience
- Strong fundamentals in data structures and object-oriented programming
- Proficiency in Node.js/JavaScript or TypeScript, Python or Java/Kotlin
- Solid SQL skills — comfortable writing joins, aggregations, and reasoning about schema design
- Working knowledge of AWS fundamentals (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS)
- Demonstrated coding ability through past projects, internships, or coursework
- Understanding of REST API design principles
- Ability to write clean, testable, maintainable code and take feedback well in code review
Nice to have
- Experience with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines
- Exposure to microservices or event-driven architecture
- Familiarity with React or another frontend framework
- Experience with NoSQL databases alongside SQL
