Principal Software Engineer

Join our Data Management & Governance team and help build the foundation for trusted, reusable, and AI-ready data across Boehringer Ingelheim. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead the technical implementation and evolution of our Data Governance Platform, with a strong focus on Collibra, and platform integrations. You will work hands-on with modern data and cloud technologies while guiding engineers, shaping solution design, and helping shape the future of our governance ecosystem. Our governance capability provides the frameworks, standards, metadata, and quality foundations that enable trusted data usage across the enterprise. You will work closely with Product Owners, Architects, and Platform Teams across the broader Data, AI & Integration landscape, including Snowflake, Databricks, APIs, and enterprise integration services.

Tasks and responsibilities

- Lead the design and implementation of capabilities on our Data Governance Platform.

- Develop and extend Collibra-based solutions and integrations.

- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to internal and external engineering teams.

- Build metadata-driven automation, workflows, and self-service capabilities.

- Support integration of governance capabilities across the broader enterprise data ecosystem.

- Lead technical implementation across internal and external engineering teams.

- Contribute hands-on through coding, reviews, troubleshooting, and solution design.

- Drive solution quality, scalability, maintainability, and operational excellence.

- Contribute to architecture discussions, engineering standards, and platform evolution.

- Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, and Platform Teams to deliver roadmap initiatives.

Requirements

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

- 5-6+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, Technical Consulting, Developer Enablement, or a similar technical role.

- Strong experience in software engineering, solution design, and technical leadership within enterprise environments.

- Experience designing and implementing enterprise applications, integrations, APIs, and event-driven architectures.

- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, DevOps practices, automation, and modern software delivery approaches.

- Experience working with cloud-native architectures and cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, or similar technologies.

- Knowledge of Data Governance, Metadata Management, Data Catalog, Data Quality, or related data management solutions; experience with Collibra is highly desirable.

- Experience in Data Engineering, metadata automation, and enterprise data integration.

- Proven ability to collaborate with and manage external development partners and cross-functional stakeholders.

- Strong influencing and communication skills with the ability to drive technical direction and delivery across multiple teams.

- Experience working in large-scale, regulated enterprise environments is an advantage.
