Part- Time Security Officer

STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Sworn
SCHEDULE: Primarily Friday and Saturday evenings/nights, with additional event-support shifts as needed

BASIC PURPOSE:

The Part-Time Security Officer supports the safety and security of the Assumption University campus by providing a visible security presence and assisting with access control, perimeter security, traffic management, and University events.

The position is primarily assigned to campus entrances and access-control locations during high-traffic evening and weekend periods. The Security Officer monitors vehicle and pedestrian access, assists with traffic flow, and supports campus operations in coordination with sworn Assumption University Police Officers.

This is a non-sworn position and does not exercise police powers or independently perform law-enforcement functions. Situations requiring enforcement, investigation, or police intervention are referred to sworn University Police personnel.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Staff designated campus entrances, gatehouses, and other access-control locations.
- Monitor vehicle and pedestrian traffic and assist with verifying authorized campus access when required.
- Provide a visible security presence during evening, weekend, and other high-traffic periods.
- Assist with parking, traffic control, pedestrian flow, entrance monitoring, and other University event-support functions.
- Observe and promptly report suspicious activity, safety concerns, emergencies, or other situations requiring police response.
- Maintain effective radio communication with University Police Dispatch and sworn personnel.
- Provide courteous directions, information, and assistance to students, employees, visitors, vendors, and guests.
- Complete activity logs, incident documentation, or other reports as required.
- Perform other related security, access-control, parking, traffic, and event-support duties as assigned.

Requirements

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior security, public safety, customer service, event, parking, military, or related experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-traffic or challenging situations.
- Ability to follow established procedures and direction from supervisors and sworn police personnel.
- Ability to recognize situations requiring police intervention and promptly request assistance.
- Ability to use a portable radio and basic security/access-control equipment.
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record if University vehicle operation is required.
- Ability and willingness to work primarily Friday and Saturday evening/night shifts and occasional additional events.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, walk throughout campus, assist with traffic and pedestrian control, and occasionally move lightweight traffic-control equipment.

Salary Description
$20 to $25 an hour
