BASIC FUNCTION:
Sonneborn, an HF Sinclair company, is seeking a motivated Engineering Intern to join our Petrolia, Pennsylvania team. The Engineering Intern supports the site’s Maintenance team by assisting with the maintenance, performance and reliability of critical assets.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to support equipment reliability and performance improvement initiatives.
- Assist with the coordination and execution of engineering and maintenance projects.
- Support asset integrity and reliability programs for critical equipment and systems.
- Participate in turnaround planning and execution activities, including spare parts inspections and quality control reviews.
- Analyze equipment performance data and assist in identifying opportunities to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
- Support troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and corrective action initiatives related to equipment and process issues.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, reports, and project records.
- Assist with continuous improvement projects focused on safety, reliability, efficiency, and operational excellence.
- Perform additional engineering and maintenance-related duties as assigned.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
EDUCATION LEVEL:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
- Completion of junior level courses is preferred.
SKILLS:
- Basic knowledge of commonly used engineering terminology.
- Ability to apply engineering knowledge analytically.
- Willingness to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Familiarity with engineering software is preferred.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Petroleum refinery and driver-based environment including but not limited to chemical, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, working in confined spaces, and exposure to risk of electrical shock. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions. Occasionally required to work long hours, which may include nights, weekends, holidays for regularly scheduled maintenance and emergency work and support as well as on-call availability.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations. Depending on location, you must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
