Road & Rail Services is seeking an experienced Equipment Operator to support our mechanical railroad operation in Butler, Pennsylvania .

This position is designed for someone who already has hands-on experience operating heavy equipment, construction equipment, loaders, forklifts, material-handling equipment, or other industrial machinery and understands the responsibility that comes with working around large equipment.

You'll work in an active railroad environment supporting daily mechanical and material-handling operations. Safety awareness, equipment knowledge, good judgment, and dependable attendance are essential to success in this position.

Previous equipment operating experience is required. Railroad experience is preferred but is not required for candidates who bring strong equipment experience from construction, manufacturing, industrial, mining, material handling, or similar operations.

What You'll Do

As an Equipment Operator, you'll be responsible for safely operating assigned equipment while supporting the daily needs of the facility. Duties may include:

Operate heavy equipment and material-handling machinery safely and efficiently

Move, position, load, and unload materials, parts, tools, and equipment

Complete required pre-operation equipment inspections

Recognize and report mechanical problems, damage, leaks, or other equipment concerns

Maneuver equipment safely around railcars, tracks, vehicles, employees, and other site hazards

Support railroad mechanical operations based on daily workload and production needs

Follow designated travel paths and site operating procedures

Maintain awareness of changing conditions and surrounding personnel while equipment is in operation

Follow equipment capacity limits and established operating requirements

Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas

Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment concerns

Assist with physical and general operational tasks when equipment operation is not required

Follow all Road & Rail Services, customer, and railroad safety requirements

Experience & Qualifications

Qualified candidates should have:

Previous heavy equipment or industrial equipment operating experience

Experience with loaders, forklifts, construction equipment, material-handling machinery, or similar equipment

Strong understanding of safe equipment operation

Ability to perform and document basic pre-use equipment inspections

Experience working around moving machinery and other industrial hazards

Ability to follow written and verbal operating instructions

Strong situational awareness and attention to surroundings

Dependable attendance and punctuality

Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers

Willingness to perform physical work in addition to equipment operation

Experience in railroad operations, construction, manufacturing, mining, industrial maintenance, material handling, or heavy equipment operations is especially relevant.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is a hands-on outdoor industrial position , not a climate-controlled warehouse job.

Employees must be comfortable working around active railroad tracks, railcars, heavy machinery, vehicles, and mechanical operations. Work may be performed outdoors throughout the year in heat, cold, rain, wind, and other changing weather conditions .
