About this role
On behalf of FCDO, we are looking for a Lead Data Analyst (Inside IR35) for a 12 month contract, primarily remote with occasional travel to London or Glasgow.
PLEASE NOTE: SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
Role Purpose
The Lead Data Analyst is responsible for leading the day-to-day data and analytics function, ensuring the delivery of high-quality reporting, insights, and data services to both internal and external stakeholders. The role acts as the bridge between analytics and business operations ensuring that data assets are reliable, accessible and aligned to organisational priorities.
The successful candidate will manage a team of analysts, oversee reporting delivery, drive data quality improvements, work closely with data engineering teams to support reporting requirements and contribute to the evolution of the organisation's wider data strategy.
As a Lead Data Analyst , your main responsibilities will be:
Analytics Team Leadership
- Lead , manage , and develop a team of Data Analysts, providing coaching and mentoring
- Establish and maintain analytical standards, methodologies, and best practices.
- Prioritise workload and resources to ensure delivery against business objectives and service commitments.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and data-driven decision making.
Reporting & Insight Delivery
- Own the design, development, and maintenance of the organisation's reporting suite ensuring delivery is on time and meets data quality standards for internal operational teams, senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Drive optimisation of reporting processes to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Translate business requirements into meaningful reporting outputs, KPIs , and management information.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for reporting and analytics requirements across the organisation.
- Build strong relationships with operational leaders , senior stakeholders, customers, and external partners.
- Present insights, trends, and recommendations in a clear and impactful manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support strategic decision making through analysis and evidence-based recommendations.
Data Governance & Quality
- Champion data quality, consistency, and governance practices.
- Identify and address data integrity issues, working collaboratively with engineering and business teams.
- Support the definition and maintenance of key business metrics and data definitions.
- Ensure compliance with organisational data policies and regulatory requirements.
Essential:
- Significant experience in data analysis , business intelligence, or analytics roles.
- Experience delivering reporting and dashboard solutions using Power BI.
- Experience leading or managing an analytics team.
- Proven track record of delivering enterprise reporting and dashboard solutions.
- Strong understanding of KPI development, operational reporting, and performance management .
- Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and translating business needs into analytical solutions.
- Experience working with modern BI and visualisation platforms.
Desirable:
- Experience operating within a complex , data-driven organisation.
- Understanding of data governance, metadata management , and master data principles .
- Experience supporting both internal business reporting and customer-facing reporting services.
- Active SC Clearance.
