Job Title: Compliance Engineer Job Description
The Compliance Engineer supports product-safety compliance and certification activities for industrial hardware products, with a focus on turbine fuel valves and actuators. This role is not a product-design position and does not specialize in EMC or EMI compliance. Instead, you work closely with product engineering, suppliers, laboratories, quality teams, and external certification agencies to ensure products meet all applicable electrical, mechanical, pressure, machinery, hazardous-location, and regional safety requirements. You play a key role in connecting standards, product requirements, technical documentation, testing, audits, and certification to ensure products are properly tested, documented, and approved for market use.
Responsibilities
- Support product-safety compliance and certification activities for industrial hardware products, including turbine fuel valves and actuators.
- Ensure products meet applicable electrical, mechanical, pressure, machinery, hazardous-location, and regional safety requirements.
- Collaborate closely with product engineering, laboratories, suppliers, quality teams, and external certification agencies to coordinate compliance efforts.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings and technical product documentation to verify compliance with relevant standards and requirements.
- Coordinate product testing activities, including mechanical and environmental tests such as temperature, water, pressure, and other laboratory evaluations.
- Support internal, external, and product-certification audits by preparing documentation, responding to findings, and facilitating corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain organized technical files and certification documentation to ensure accurate records and traceability of compliance activities.
- Assist with compliance and certification work for new-product-introduction projects, including planning, scheduling, and tracking certification tasks.
- Connect standards, product requirements, technical documentation, testing results, audits, and certification outcomes into a cohesive compliance approach.
- Work with external certification agencies, such as CSA and similar organizations, to obtain and maintain required product certifications.
- Contribute to quality systems and regulatory compliance processes, helping to improve procedures and maintain adherence to product-safety standards.
- Participate in cross-functional collaboration with mechanical and electrical engineers to address compliance questions and resolve issues.
- Provide project coordination or project-management support for compliance-related initiatives, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
- Help ensure that all products are properly tested, documented, certified, and able to meet applicable market and safety requirements.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- At least three years of relevant professional experience, with five or more years preferred.
- Experience working with physical products, hardware, manufacturing, assembly, testing, quality, certification, or a related engineering environment.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical product documentation.
- Exposure to product-safety standards, regulatory requirements, certification activities, quality systems, or compliance audits.
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering teams, laboratories, suppliers, quality groups, or external agencies.
- Strong documentation skills, with the ability to create, organize, and maintain detailed technical and certification records.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple compliance tasks, projects, and documentation streams effectively.
- Ability to work onsite three days per week at the Lincoln campus in Fort Collins, Colorado in a hybrid work arrangement.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with one or more of the following: IEC standards, ATEX requirements, hazardous-location products, Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), pressure safety, machinery safety, CE marking, electrical safety, or marine-industry certification.
- Experience supporting internal, external, or product-certification audits.
- Experience working with external certification agencies such as CSA or similar organizations.
- Manufacturing or product-assembly experience with physical industrial hardware.
- Experience supporting mechanical laboratory testing, including temperature, water, pressure, or environmental testing.
- Experience maintaining technical files and certification documentation for compliance and regulatory purposes.
- Experience coordinating compliance or certification work for new-product-introduction projects.
- Project coordination or project-management experience in an engineering or technical environment.
- Comfort working with tangible industrial products, such as turbine fuel valves and actuators.
- Interest in building deeper knowledge in product safety, regulatory standards, and certification processes, with openness to learning from senior engineers.
Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid work environment based at the Lincoln campus in Fort Collins, Colorado, with three days per week onsite and two days working from home. You join an eight-person engineering team that includes both mechanical and electrical backgrounds and offers significant senior-level expertise, providing strong mentorship and learning opportunities. The role involves regular interaction with product engineering, laboratories, suppliers, quality teams, and external certification agencies, and focuses on tangible industrial hardware products rather than purely theoretical or software-only work. The environment emphasizes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and long-term capacity building, with exposure to a wide range of compliance areas, including electrical safety, mechanical safety, pressure safety, machinery safety, hazardous locations, ATEX, CE marking, IEC standards, PED, and marine requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Collins, CO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
