Electrical Designer

Job Title: Electrical Designer ONLY APPLY IF YOU MEET ALL THREE REQUIREMENTS: ELECTRICAL DESIGN USING EPLAN AUTOMATION EXPERIENCE 3+ Years of Industry Experience Job Description The Electrical Designer designs and develops electrical schematics and control panel layouts for custom automation equipment and machinery using EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical. This role focuses on creating detailed cabinet designs, terminal block layouts, wiring diagrams, and thermal management solutions that comply with North American electrical standards. The position offers the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, from concept and design through manufacturing, integration, and commissioning, within a highly collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment. Responsibilities

- Design and develop electrical schematics using EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical for custom automation equipment and machinery.
- Create detailed control panel layouts, cabinet designs, terminal block layouts, and wiring diagrams that meet project requirements and industry standards.
- Design electrical systems for custom automation equipment and manufacturing machinery, ensuring functionality, safety, and reliability.
- Size and specify panel thermal management systems, including cooling fans and air conditioning units, to ensure proper heat dissipation and component protection.
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with North American electrical standards and relevant industry regulations.
- Generate accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and all supporting electrical documentation required for manufacturing and commissioning.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical designers, controls engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure integrated, practical solutions.
- Support troubleshooting activities and implement design modifications during manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning phases.
- Participate in design reviews, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in design processes and standards.
- Work on multiple custom automation and machine design projects simultaneously, adapting designs to unique customer specifications and requirements.
- Support the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and design through build, integration, testing, and final implementation at customer sites.

Essential Skills

- 35 years of experience in electrical design, preferably within automation, machine design, or related industrial environments.
- Proficiency with EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical for developing electrical schematics, panel layouts, and documentation (experience with both tools is preferred).
- Hands-on experience with machine design, including control panels, cabinet layouts, terminal block layouts, and wiring diagrams.
- Experience designing and specifying thermal management solutions for electrical panels, including fan selection and air conditioning sizing.
- Strong knowledge of North American electrical standards and the ability to design systems that comply with applicable codes and regulations.
- Ability to generate accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and comprehensive electrical documentation to support manufacturing and commissioning.
- Proven experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical designers, controls engineers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to support design changes during manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and commitment to producing high-quality, compliant designs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience in automation systems or automated processes, with experience in industries such as pharmaceutical, biomedical, or other advanced manufacturing environments.
- Experience working on custom machine design projects, including unique or one-of-a-kind automation equipment.
- Exposure to advanced control systems and industrial automation technologies.
- Experience participating in formal design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Interest in building deeper expertise in EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, control panel design, and custom machine building.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and enjoyment of tackling complex engineering challenges in automation and machine design.
- Ability to take ownership of assigned projects, manage multiple tasks, and deliver on time within a project-based setting.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate across disciplines and present design concepts and changes.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Vaughan, ON.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
