JOB SUMMARY:

The Oracle Planning Application Developer is responsible for the design, development, support, optimization, and continuous improvement of enterprise financial planning and forecasting solutions. This position serves as a technical contributor across application development, production support, system integration, automation, and solution delivery activities supporting Forecast-to-Report (F2R) capabilities and related enterprise platforms.

The role will design, build, configure, and support custom applications, integrations, and enhancements that extend vendor-delivered Oracle capabilities while ensuring compatibility with future platform updates. The successful candidate will partner closely with business stakeholders, architects, product teams, and support organizations to deliver solutions that are secure, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with Southern Company's strategic objectives.

A key expectation of this role is the effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a development partner throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). The successful candidate will leverage AI-enabled tools and capabilities to accelerate solution design, improve code quality, optimize troubleshooting activities, enhance documentation, automate repetitive tasks, and identify innovative opportunities to improve business outcomes. AI is viewed as a force multiplier that augments engineering productivity, improves delivery quality, and enables faster realization of business value.

This position supports Oracle Planning and associated enterprise platforms including Oracle Financials, Oracle HCM, UI Planner, PowerPlan , Oracle Projects, Allocations, and other integrated solutions. The individual must possess strong technical, analytical, and communication skills and be capable of thriving in a collaborative Agile environment while maintaining a strong focus on operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities :

Application Development & AI-Accelerated Engineering

- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise-level software applications, integrations, and configurations that support budgeting, forecasting, allocation, and reporting processes.

- Utilize AI-powered development tools to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, refactoring, documentation creation, and problem-solving activities.

- Develop high-quality, maintainable, secure, and scalable solutions that adhere to Southern Company's engineering standards and architectural principles.

- Apply AI-assisted techniques to identify development efficiencies, reduce technical debt, improve maintainability, and increase overall developer productivity.

- Validate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, security, compliance, performance, and business alignment before deployment.

Solution Design & Innovation

- Collaborate with architects, product teams, and business stakeholders to evaluate and design technical solutions that address business challenges.

- Apply critical thinking and AI-assisted analysis to evaluate alternative solution approaches and recommend optimal designs.

- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, improve operational reliability, and enhance user experiences through emerging technologies and AI capabilities.

- Participate in strategic roadmap development and modernization initiatives across Finance and Enterprise Planning platforms.

System Integration & Automation

- Design and support API-based integrations between enterprise systems.

- Develop and maintain automated data movement processes supporting Oracle Planning and related applications.

- Leverage AI capabilities to accelerate integration analysis, data mapping validation, troubleshooting, and monitoring improvements.

- Ensure data integrity, performance, and resilience across connected systems.

Production Support & Operational Excellence

- Troubleshoot complex application , integration, and data-related issues across enterprise environments.

- Utilize AI-assisted diagnostics and analysis tools to accelerate root cause identification and issue resolution.

- Support critical business processes by monitoring application health, integration performance, and batch processing activities.

- Conduct root cause analyses and identify automation or preventive measures that reduce recurring incidents.

Quality Engineering

- Develop and execute comprehensive testing strategies including unit, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing.

- Utilize AI-assisted testing capabilities to generate test scenarios, improve test coverage, identify edge cases, and accelerate defect detection

- Continuously improve software quality, reliability, and performance through automation and engineering best practices.

- Participate in peer reviews of both human-authored and AI-assisted code changes.

Documentation & Knowledge Management

- Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, technical specifications, support documentation, runbooks, and implementation guides.

- Leverage AI tools to improve documentation quality, consistency, accessibility, and maintainability.

- Create reusable knowledge assets that enhance organizational learning and operational support capabilities.

Continuous Learning & Emerging Technologies

- Maintain awareness of industry trends, enterprise technologies, Oracle platform enhancements, and AI advancements.

- Evaluate emerging AI capabilities and recommend responsible adoption opportunities that deliver measurable value.

- Contribute to establishing and evolving AI engineering best practices within the organization.

Education & Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Information Systems, Accounting, Engineering, or related field

- 5+ years of experience supporting and developing enterprise applications, preferably Oracle EPM Planning solutions.

- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools as part of software engineering, automation, troubleshooting, documentation, or testing activities.

- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies and modern development practices.

- Experience with API-based integrations between enterprise systems.

- Working knowledge of Oracle Planning including business rules, Groovy scripting, calculation scripting, and financial planning processes.

- Strong SQL and data analysis capabilities.

- Experience supporting enterprise integrations and middleware technologies

- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and perform root cause analysis
- Preferred:

- Experience implementing AI-enabled engineering tools and workflows.

- Experience with prompt engineering, AI-assisted solution design, and AI-powered code analysis.

- Experience developing automation solutions utilizing AI services and APIs

- Oracle EPM certifications

- Knowledge of cloud-native and AI-enabled development patterns.
