Introduction to the Team
The Competitive Intelligence Data Platform team is responsible for building high‑quality data products that can be leveraged by Pricing, Marketing Managers, analysts, and ML scientists to power use cases that optimise EG's inventory, availability, and pricing in support of multiple teams across the EG business.
We are looking for a Data Engineer with experience in AI capabilities in building data products and applications, who can craft, develop, and own the next generation of scalable real-time and batch data products and services.
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, test, and maintain scalable, resilient, and secure data pipelines, data services, and storage layers that power Expedia Group products and platforms.
- Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, analysts, and engineers to translate business and customer requirements into robust data system designs, including low-level design, API design, and data models for batch and real-time use cases.
- Develop and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and serving workflows using clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, automated tests, and tooling that improve reliability, observability, and data quality.
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions, identifying opportunities to simplify data systems, reduce technical debt, and improve performance, scalability, and cost efficiency across datasets and services.
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of data features and services, including deployment, monitoring, incident response, and incremental improvement, while safely integrating and operating AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve outcomes.
- Work across different parts of the data stack and adjacent domains, demonstrating familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
- 2+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience designing, building, and operating production data pipelines, data services, or data platforms, and owning data features or services through development, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolution of production issues.
- Hands-on proficiency in at least one modern programming language and its ecosystem, with experience in low-level system design, API design, and data modeling for data-centric, service-oriented, or microservices architectures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing and implementing scalable, fault-tolerant, and high-throughput data solutions, including well-structured schemas, data contracts, and APIs that serve multiple teams or domains.
- Demonstrated success improving data platform availability, performance, reliability, or quality through metrics, observability, automation, alerting, and automated recovery.
- Experience integrating or leveraging AI/ML-enabled platforms, feature stores, or model-serving data flows in production, and safely operating AI-driven data features to improve customer and business outcomes.
- Experience across multiple areas of the data stack, including ingestion, transformation, storage, and data-serving APIs, with the ability to adapt to new frameworks, platforms, and AI-driven tooling.
- Ability to contribute to data architecture and design decisions using experimentation, evaluation metrics, and other data-driven approaches while helping evolve engineering standards and practices for responsible use of data and AI/ML.
