As a Construction Engineer – MEP , you’ll be at the heart of an exciting new West Apron Vehicle Underpass project at Dublin Airport . Join our dynamic team and make a difference!

The Construction Engineer – MEP will support the safe, coordinated and timely delivery of the mechanical, electrical, public-health and specialist systems required for the Underpass Project at Dublin Airport. The role is site focused and covers the full construction cycle: design coordination, procurement, installation, inspection, testing, commissioning, handover and close-out.

Working under the direction of the M&E Agent and in close collaboration with the wider project team, the Engineer will take ownership of defined M&E packages and interfaces, convert design information into executable site activities, identify and resolve constraints early, and maintain clear evidence that the works comply with approved designs, specifications, quality requirements and project HSWE arrangements.

Key Responsibilities include:

Construction planning and delivery

· Plan and coordinate assigned M&E works, ensuring that labour, materials, plant, access, permits, approved information and predecessor activities are available before work starts.

· Prepare short-term work plans, look-aheads and installation priorities aligned with the integrated construction programme and key project milestones.

· Coordinate M&E activities with civil, structural, architectural, utilities, drainage, roadworks and airport operational interfaces to prevent clashes, abortive work and disruption.

· Monitor productivity and progress against plan; maintain accurate site records and promptly escalate slippage, constraints or emerging risks with recovery actions.

· Provide technical direction to subcontractors and verify that the latest approved drawings, specifications and installation details are being used on site.

Design and technical coordination

· Review drawings, specifications, schedules, models, calculations, technical submittals and manufacturers’ information for buildability, completeness and coordination.

· Manage technical queries and RFIs from identification through response, implementation and close-out, maintaining a clear audit trail.

· Participate in design coordination and constructability reviews; identify clashes, access and maintenance requirements, builder’s-work needs, temporary-service requirements and system interfaces.

· Coordinate installation drawings, coordinated services layouts, builders-work information, red-line mark-ups and as-built records.

· Ensure design changes and field instructions are communicated to affected parties and incorporated into controlled project information.

Procurement and supply-chain management

· Support the preparation and procurement of M&E work packages, scopes, technical schedules and tender clarifications in conjunction with the M&E and Commercial teams.

· Undertake technical reviews of tender submissions, proposed equipment, materials and alternatives, identifying compliance gaps, exclusions and interface risks.

· Monitor design approvals, manufacture, factory testing where applicable, delivery, storage and installation of long-lead and critical equipment.

· Coordinate subcontractor mobilisation, workface readiness and performance; chair or support package progress meetings and issue clear actions and records.

· Maintain package trackers covering submittals, RFIs, procurement, deliveries, inspections, testing, commissioning, defects and handover deliverables.

Quality assurance and compliance

· Implement the project Quality Plan for assigned M&E works, including Inspection and Test Plans, check sheets, benchmarks, samples, hold points and witness points.

· Inspect installations and verify compliance with approved design information, specifications, manufacturers’ requirements, relevant standards and agreed workmanship criteria.

· Raise, manage and close non-conformance reports, defects, punch-list items and corrective actions, ensuring root causes and repeat issues are addressed.

· Compile and maintain quality records, test certificates, equipment data, inspection evidence, photographic records, red-line drawings and handover documentation.

· Support inspections by the client, designers, statutory bodies, airport stakeholders and other authorised parties, and coordinate timely close-out of observations.

Testing, commissioning and handover

· Assist in developing the commissioning strategy, programme, system boundaries, test scripts, inspection plans and resource requirements from early construction stages.

· Coordinate pre-commissioning, energisation, functional testing, integrated systems testing, witnessing, demonstrations and performance verification for assigned systems.

· Confirm readiness before testing, including completion status, safety documentation, calibrated instruments, approved procedures, temporary arrangements and attendance requirements.

· Track commissioning results, failures, defects and retests through to verified closure.

· Coordinate handover deliverables including O&M manuals, as-built drawings, asset information, warranties, spares, training records, certificates and final completion evidence.

Health, safety, wellbeing and environment

· Demonstrate visible HSWE leadership and support the project’s One-Team culture through active engagement, site presence and prompt intervention where standards are not met.

· Ensure assigned works are planned and delivered in accordance with project HSWE requirements, approved RAMS, permits, isolations, lifting plans, temporary works controls and environmental constraints.

· Participate in task planning, briefings, inspections, assurance walks and incident or near-miss reviews; verify that actions are completed and learning is shared.

· Coordinate safe access, working areas, service isolations, testing zones, temporary supplies and interfaces with live or operational areas.

· Promote good housekeeping, material control, waste reduction and protection of completed works and the surrounding airport environment.

Commercial, reporting and stakeholder support

· Maintain contemporaneous records of progress, labour, plant, materials, instructions, delays, disruptions, testing and changes relevant to assigned packages.

· Support the M&E and Commercial teams with technical assessment of variations, quotations, scope changes, claims information and subcontractor applications.

· Prepare concise engineering reports, dashboards, meeting inputs and package updates that clearly state status, risks, decisions required and accountable actions.

· Build constructive working relationships with client representatives, designers, airport stakeholders, subcontractors, suppliers and other project disciplines.

· Protect confidential and commercially sensitive information and comply with project document-control requirements.

· Assigned M&E packages are installed safely, correctly and in accordance with the agreed programme and approved information.

· Constraints, interfaces and technical queries are identified early, allocated to an owner and closed without avoidable impact to the works.

· Inspection, testing, commissioning and quality records are complete, accurate, current and readily auditable.

· Procurement, submittal and delivery trackers provide reliable forward visibility of risks and required decisions.

· Non-conformances, defects and commissioning issues are closed promptly with clear evidence.

· Handover information is developed progressively and accepted without a late-documentation backlog.

· Communication is concise, professional and proactive, strengthening coordination across the project team and supply chain.

Requirements:

· Degree, higher diploma or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Engineering or a closely related discipline.

· Relevant site-based experience delivering M&E or building-services works on a construction, infrastructure, transport, industrial or similarly complex project.

· Working knowledge of construction sequencing, design coordination, technical submittals, inspections, testing, commissioning and handover.

· Ability to read and interpret M&E drawings, schematics, specifications, schedules, builders-work information and coordinated services layouts.

· Practical understanding of safe systems of work, RAMS, permits, isolations, quality inspections and construction-site controls.

· Competence in Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, and willingness to work within project document-control systems.
