Lab Associate

Laboratory Associate Pathology We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Associate to support daily specimen processing and laboratory operations within a pathology laboratory setting. This is a hands-on, bench-focused role well-suited for a science graduate looking to build a foundation in a clinical or research laboratory environment. The Laboratory Associate will receive, prepare, document, and route biological specimens while maintaining accurate records and following established laboratory procedures. Work is performed under the supervision of qualified laboratory personnel, with opportunities to cross-train across multiple laboratory departments based on experience and operational needs. Key Responsibilities

- Receive, sort, label, prepare, and track biological specimens throughout the accessioning and processing workflow
- Verify specimen integrity and patient/sample information for accuracy prior to processing
- Enter and maintain specimen data in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) with a high degree of accuracy
- Perform specimen preparation techniques including pipetting, centrifugation, aliquoting, and dilutions
- Apply aseptic technique and proper biosafety practices when handling all biological specimens and reagents
- Prepare specimens for downstream testing including cytology, molecular, histology, or other laboratory workflows
- Load, unload, and monitor automated laboratory instruments as trained and directed
- Verify specimen, vial, and slide labels prior to processing to ensure chain of custody and traceability
- Maintain accurate records including specimen logs, equipment maintenance records, temperature monitoring, and reagent documentation in accordance with GLP standards
- Organize, stock, and monitor laboratory supplies and reagent inventories, including expiration date management
- Clean and maintain laboratory work areas, instruments, and equipment per established SOPs
- Communicate any missing, incorrect, or compromised specimen information promptly to the appropriate team member
- Follow all written SOPs, safety protocols, infection control standards, and quality requirements

Qualifications Required:

- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline or equivalent combination of education and hands-on laboratory experience
- Hands-on laboratory experience with core techniques such as pipetting, centrifugation, aseptic technique, and basic specimen handling
- Familiarity with GLP principles and the importance of accurate documentation and chain of custody
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality
- Comfortable using computers and entering data into laboratory tracking or information systems
- Ability to follow written procedures, SOPs, and laboratory safety requirements consistently
- Comfortable handling biological specimens using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to work at a steady pace, prioritize tasks, and meet daily processing deadlines

Preferred:

- Prior experience in a clinical, pathology, CRO, or regulated laboratory environment
- Exposure to specimen accessioning, cytology preparation, histology, or molecular testing workflows
- Familiarity with a Laboratory Information System (LIS) or similar data management platform
- Understanding of biosafety levels, infection control practices, and laboratory safety standards

Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pleasant Hill, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
