Internship, Mobile Application Software Engineer, Energy Engineering (Winter/Spring 2027)

This position is expected to start January 2027 and continue through the entire Winter/Spring term (i.e through April/May 2027) or into Summer 2027 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Join the Tesla Energy App team as a Mobile App Software Engineer intern, building the Tesla App experience for Solar, Powerwall, Wall Connector, and Powershare. Your work on the Tesla App ships to millions of users—you'll write production code, take it through code review and our release train, and see it in the hands of Tesla owners before your internship ends. You'll be mentored by senior engineers who have shipped major products, and work day to day with Product, Design, Firmware, and Cloud teams.

The Tesla Energy Mobile App team builds the core app experience for Solar, Powerwall, and Charging. Our goal is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy by building friendly, understandable, and powerful user interfaces that anybody can understand and use.

Some projects we shipped in 2025 & 2026:

• Powershare, which turns Cybertruck into a backup battery for your home. The Tesla App shows how your home is running on your truck, and how your truck is charging from solar or the grid (https://www.tesla.com/support/powershare)

• Charge Stats, rebuilt from the ground up for Tesla drivers: what you spent charging at home and on the road, how much you saved versus gas, plus Charging Badges and a Charging Passport that map every Supercharger you've visited (https://www.tesla.com/support/tesla-app/charging-badges)

Past interns on our team have launched Virtual Power Plant programs for dozens of utilities across the US and Australia, built a real-time grid dashboard for Puerto Rico, created in-app tutorials and release notes that teach owners how their systems work, and built features for our 3D home screen—and several have come back for a second term or joined full time.

Location: Palo Alto, CA

- Build full stack features in the Tesla App: TypeScript and React Native on the front end, Swift and SwiftUI for widgets and Apple Watch, and Go on the back end
- Ship real work to users—through code review, into our release train, and into the hands of Tesla owners
- Work hands-on with Solar, Powerwall, and Wall Connector hardware, testing on real devices rather than simulators
- Partner closely with designers to turn Figma into pixel-perfect, polished UI—and bring engineering insight when there's a better way
- Use AI coding agents to move fast, while reviewing, testing, and owning every line you ship
- Collaborate in a large, shared codebase used by engineering teams across Tesla—writing clear PRs, reviewing teammates' code, and leaving things better than you found them

- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
- Fluency in TypeScript and React Native (or React); experience with Swift/SwiftUI or Go is a strong plus
- Experience collaborating on a team codebase—a prior internship, open source, or a substantial team project—with a working command of git, pull requests, and code review
- Excellent at steering AI coding tools, with the judgment to verify their output and the fundamentals to know when it's wrong
- A designer's eye: you notice when a margin is off by 2px, and you care about animation, typography, and visual polish
- Excellent communication skills, an ability to learn quickly, and high standards for code quality, maintainability, and performance
- Passion for Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy

Expected Compensation $20.00 - $50.00 + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
