Electric Meter Technician

Texas Meter & Device is hiring a full-time electric meter technician in the greater Albuquerque, NM area. We will train but you must have mechanical aptitude to be successful.

Technicians report to the TMD location in Albuquerque, NM at the start and at the end of each day. Candidates must reside in the area as there is not a relocation allowance nor per diem associated with this position.

Again, this is a full-time position.

Under the general direction of the Electric Meter Installation Project Manager or Field Supervisor, the Electric Meter Technician will be exchanging residential and commercial class electric meters.

Pay is based on production once training is complete. Training generally takes 10-14 days. Training pay is $18/hr. Then once technicians move to production pay, they can make $20-25/hr or more depending on production levels. There is no cap on production pay!

Responsibilities include:

- Will exchange residential class and commercial class electric meters

- Use a work order management system to capture site data

- Maintain accurate records of work completed

- Oversee the materials, equipment, vehicle, and tools

- Safely operate a company vehicle

- Keep track of new and used inventory

- Recording addresses, GPS, and meter information

- Verification of proper installation/transmission of new meter data by utilizing tablet PC, handheld equipment, or smartphone

- Manages daily client communications, data and reporting

- Coordinates scheduling and meets quality / quantity requirements

- Provide for excellence in internal and external customer service by creating a positive experience for customers, end users and communities through professional and courteous behavior and producing high-quality results

- Other duties and tasks as assigned or necessary

Qualifications

Requirements:

- Mechanical aptitude is necessary

- Ability to use handheld devices and other equipment as required for the position

- Ability to work with minimal supervision

- Ability to stand on feet, bend, or stoop for a prolonged period of time. The work is performed outdoors and through inclement weather as necessary

- Ability to carry out duties in a safe and efficient manner

- Stable Multi-year Work History

- Attention to Detail

- DEPENDABILITY

- Previous electrical experience preferred but not required

- Good Communication Skills (speaking, reading and writing)

- Must have a valid driver's license and excellent driving record

- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and have a minimum of 3 years of driving experience due to insurance requirements

- Must have work boots

- Must have own personal Smart phone

- Additional Requirements: Background check clearance including drug screening and I-9 documentation as required by law

Shift and Pay Info:

$18-25/hour or more depending on production

Monday – Friday, with Saturday work/overtime available and possibly required at times

Work hours are usually an 8-hour shift, generally between the hours of 7am – 5pm. Shift is usually 7am - 3:30pm, with a required 30-minute unpaid lunch period.

Safety-Sensitive Position Designation

Due to the inherent hazards of this role — including but not limited to handling high-voltage electrical equipment, working in hazardous environments, operating company service vehicles, and utilizing specialized power tools—unimpaired cognitive and physical function is an essential requirement of the job.
