Schedule: Monday-Friday 5pm-8pm

This client is an 11 year old girl. The family is seeking for a DSP who is caring, patient and outgoing. The client is a friendly, sweet, and generally independent young girl who thrives with encouragement, structure, and positive guidance. She independently manages many daily living tasks, including showering, personal hygiene, and using the restroom. While she is capable of doing many things on her own, she benefits from gentle reminders, prompts, and support to stay on task and complete daily responsibilities successfully. Our client enjoys spending time in her room and may need encouragement to engage in activities outside of the home. She is not aggressive; however, like many children her age, she can become frustrated and have tantrums when asked to do tasks she does not want to complete. The ideal DSP will remain calm, patient, and supportive while helping her work through these moments and successfully complete expectations. The family is looking for someone who can provide gentle redirection, maintain consistency, and serve as a positive role model while helping her continue to grow her independence and confidence. The family has two dogs.

Qualifications:

Experience supporting children or individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities
A patient, positive and outgoing DSP
Ability to remain calm and supportive during challenging situations
Experience promoting independence while maintaining supervision and safety
Comfortable supporting hygiene and self-care routines.
Requirements:

Spanish Speaking or Bilingual is strongly preferred.
Be comfortable working around dogs 
Encourage participation in community activities and social opportunities.
Provide gentle reminders and support with daily living tasks.

Direct Support Professional (DSP) / In Home Care Giver Responsibilities and Duties:

This role involves caring for a client on an individual basis in their home environment as well as taking them out into the community to learn skills and socialize. This role varies depending on the client but can involve teaching skills of independent living such as self-care, behavior management, budgeting, cooking, shopping and cleaning. Family Relief Resources is not a physical facility -100% of activities happen in the community or a client’s home.

The day-to-day duties of the DSP role requires:

Smart Phone
- The state requires all client visits to be tracked with GPS location verification at clock in/out. You will need a smart phone to access the timekeeping application once you arrive at the client’s location.
Driving
- Have a valid license and car with current insurance. Some clients will need transportation.
Documenting
- Must create and enter specific progress notes after each shift. Also, a progress report is due once per quarter.
Scheduling
- Each DSP has a set schedule and must be able to maintain this with clients.
Reliability
- Because Family Relief Resources is not a facility, we need reliable employees who can work independently, show up for their shifts, and be excellent communicators with their client’s families and with our agency.
Patient, Kind, and Positive
- Helping those with disabilities requires a person who can be patient in all situations, show kindness, and have a positive attitude toward the client and other members of the client’s family even in challenging situations.
Flexibility
- Being able to adjust to different types of personalities and disabilities from day to day.

Minimum Job Requirements:

18 years or older
Pass a Criminal History Check.
Work a minimum of 15 hours per month.
CPR and First Aid Certificate (within 3 months of hire)
State required online training courses (pre-hire and within 3 months of hire)
Continuing Education (24 hours per year)
Basic knowledge of technology, including the ability to use a smartphone for timekeeping, submitting daily and quarterly shift reports, communication with office and client family, and additional requirements as needed.
Has direct experience working with children and/or adults with varying levels of support needs (Including experience with intellectual and/or behavioral disabilities).
Understand requirements of maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding individual information.
Be literate and capable of understanding written and oral orders.
Be able to communicate with individuals, health care providers, case managers, and appropriate others.
Be able to respond to emergency situations when services are being delivered.
