Logistics Manager

## Position Summary

The Logistics Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing all logistics activities supporting the STERIS Instrument Management Services (IMS) repair business. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, this role is accountable for both external transportation management and internal logistics execution to ensure the efficient movement of customer-owned surgical instruments, repair components, consumables, and materials throughout the IMS repair network. It will support facilities in Birmingham, Chesterfield, MO, Keller, TX, Lenexa, KS, Stow OH and Fort Laurderdale, FL.

Externally, the position manages transportation providers, customer asset transportation, supplier logistics, freight and packaging expenses, and domestic and international shipping activities. The role serves as the IMS subject matter expert for transportation compliance, customs requirements, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, duties, tariffs, import/export requirements, and carrier performance management.

Internally, the position oversees campus logistics operations across the Birmingham repair center campus, including mail services, inter-building material transfers, and internal distribution activities while developing long-term strategies for improving material flow, operational throughput, labor utilization, and repair center capacity. The role partners closely with Operations, Materials Management, Customer Experience, Finance, Procurement, Information Technology, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and Corporate Logistics teams to drive service, cost, quality, and operational performance improvements across the IMS network.

## What You'll Do as a Logistics Manager

External Logistics Leadership

•    Develop and execute logistics strategies supporting the movement of customer-owned surgical instruments between healthcare facilities and IMS repair centers. 
•    Manage relationships, contracts, performance metrics, and service levels for parcel carriers, freight providers, transportation providers, and third-party logistics partners. 
•    Oversee inbound transportation of repair parts, consumables, and materials from domestic and international suppliers supporting IMS operations. 
•    Own freight and packaging budgets and develop strategies to optimize transportation cost, packaging effectiveness, and customer service performance. 
•    Establish logistics performance metrics and carrier scorecards focused on on-time pickup, on-time delivery, service quality, transit time, and cost performance.

Internal Logistics & Facility Flow Leadership

•    Develop and manage internal logistics strategies supporting the movement of customer assets, repair parts, work-in-process inventory, and consumable materials throughout IMS repair operations. 
•    Create and maintain logistics flow models that optimize repair center throughput, turnaround time, labor utilization, and customer service performance. 
•    Perform capacity planning, workload analysis, simulation modeling, and constraint identification to support current and future operational growth. 
•    Partner with Operations leadership to identify and eliminate material flow bottlenecks and operational constraints.

Birmingham Campus Logistics Operations

•    Manage daily logistics operations supporting the Birmingham, Alabama campus consisting of six operational buildings. 
•    Oversee mailroom operations and serve as the primary owner of the campus USPS inbound and outbound mail processes. 
•    Manage inter-building transportation activities ensuring timely movement of repair parts, customer assets, supplies, tooling, and operational materials between facilities. 
•    Oversee operation, utilization, scheduling, and safety compliance of the campus 14-foot straight truck.

## The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:

1.    Minimum 7 years of progressive logistics, transportation, supply chain, distribution, or operations experience. 
2.    Minimum 3-5 years of leadership experience. 
3.    Experience managing carrier relationships and transportation providers. 
4.    Experience with domestic and international shipping operations. 
5.    Experience with customs, HTS codes, tariffs, duties, taxes, and import/export compliance. 
6.    Experience managing freight and packaging budgets. 
7.    Experience utilizing Oracle ERP systems or equivalent enterprise systems. 
8.    Strong analytical, financial, project management, and problem-solving skills. 
9.    Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives.

Preferred:

•    MBA or master’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or related discipline. 
•    APICS/ASCM certification. 
•    Lean Six Sigma certification. 
•    Experience in healthcare, medical device, repair service, or regulated environments. 
•    Experience with transportation management systems and logistics analytics.

Pay range for this opportunity is $81,00 - $109,000. This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
