What The Role Entails

Based in Ashburn, Virginia, the Telecom Infrastructure Technician / Inspector at CloudHQ performs and verifies fiber-optic installation, repair, testing, labeling, and construction activities. The role provides field-level quality assurance, documents actual conditions, identifies nonconforming work, and supports safe, reliable turnover of telecom infrastructure.

What You Will Get to Do

- Install, route, dress, secure, label, terminate, splice, and repair fiber-optic cables and associated pathway or support components within the role’s authorization and training.
- Inspect underground, aerial, building, and data center telecom construction against approved drawings, scopes, specifications, permits, and quality requirements.
- Observe conduit, duct, handhole, manhole, pathway, cable placement, bend radius, pulling tension, grounding or bonding interfaces, firestopping, labeling, and restoration activities as applicable.
- Perform or witness continuity, polarity, optical loss, power-meter, and reflectometry testing in accordance with approved test plans and equipment procedures.
- Document daily progress, installed quantities, test results, site conditions, photos, redlines, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
- Identify damaged facilities, unsafe conditions, design conflicts, quality issues, and scope deviations; stop or escalate work when required by site rules or authority level.
- Coordinate field activities with project managers, engineers, contractors, site operations, security, safety, and utility representatives.
- Validate punch-list completion and contribute to as-built drawings, splice records, cable schedules, and closeout packages.
- Maintain tools and test equipment, track calibration status where applicable, and follow material-handling and housekeeping expectations.
- Use required personal protective equipment and comply with site safety, access, security, environmental, and work-control procedures.

Success Measures

- Work is completed safely, correctly, and in accordance with approved documents and instructions.
- Inspection findings are timely, objective, traceable, and supported by clear records.
- Deficiencies are identified early and tracked through verified correction.
- Test records, redlines, photos, and closeout documentation are complete and accurate.

Requirements

What you Bring to the Role

- 3+ years of technical infrastructure management experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school, apprenticeship, military, or industry training is beneficial.
- Hands-on experience with fiber-optic installation, repair, testing, construction inspection, or related telecom field work.
- Ability to read route plans, construction drawings, cable schedules, splice diagrams, labels, and work packages.
- Familiarity with fiber handling, cleaning, connector inspection, cable placement, pathway systems, and common field test equipment.
- Ability to create accurate field notes, photo records, redlines, deficiency reports, and test documentation.
- Valid driver’s licenses where required for assigned travel and site access.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Also Possess

- FOA CFOT/CFOS, BICSI Installer or Technician, OSHA construction training, or comparable credentials.
- Experience in outside-plant construction, utility coordination, data centers, or mission-critical facilities.
- Experience with fusion splicing, optical time-domain reflectometry, optical loss testing, and digital inspection or punch-list tools.
- Knowledge of GIS, mobile field-data collection, or fiber asset-management systems.
