Engineering Technician III, Hardware-in-the-Loop Test Lab

We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Technician III to support and maintain a Hardware-in-the-Loop test laboratory used for automated and manual firmware verification. This individual will help ensure that laboratory infrastructure, test systems, and connected hardware remain operational and available to engineering teams. In this role, you will work closely with software and test engineers to set up, troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain test environments that include PCs, Raspberry Pi systems, test fixtures, BLE clients, embedded hardware, and automation tools.

Responsibilities

- Maintain HIL test systems and laboratory infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and recover test stations, fixtures, PCs, Raspberry Pi devices, and BLE clients.
- Build, configure, and deploy new test systems.
- Perform operating-system setup and software-tool installation.
- Support automated test execution, including overnight and long-duration testing.
- Monitor testing and respond when systems enter failed or unexpected states.
- Document system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and test observations.
- Participate in continuous-improvement activities that increase laboratory reliability, efficiency, and test throughput.
- Provide timely, actionable technical feedback to engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Five or more years of experience in a laboratory, engineering, manufacturing, or technical-support environment.
- Strong Windows computer knowledge and basic Linux administration experience.
- Experience troubleshooting hardware, system setups, and technical equipment.
- Familiarity with computer hardware, embedded systems, or similar technical platforms.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow documented procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop or automated test systems.
- Raspberry Pi or macOS experience.
- Experience with BLE clients, test fixtures, or embedded systems.
- Ability to read and follow test scripts.
- Experience documenting system configurations and troubleshooting procedures.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
