Mechanical Design Engineer, Service Tooling

Service Tooling builds the physical solutions Service and Operations use after Tesla products leave the factory — vehicles, Semi, and Optimus. This is a small team. You take a real service problem, design the tool or equipment, get it built, and prove it with the people who will use it.

- Design service equipment, tools, fixtures, and handling gear from concept through production hardware
- Build and test prototypes in the lab, then change the design from what you learned
- Own the vendor path: requirements, samples, technician validation, and production ramp
- Plan tool validation and run design reviews with the people who will use and build it
- Spend enough time with technicians and service engineers to understand the job before you freeze a design
- Keep CAD, drawings, and build/use documentation current
- Follow tools into the field, close issues, and write down what changed

- Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
- 2+ years designing and building custom tooling, fixtures, or equipment
- Hands-on prototyping. You have built the hardware, not only modeled it
- 3D CAD (CATIA preferred; SolidWorks or similar)
- Working knowledge of machining and fabrication, including how process choice hits cost and lead time
- First-principles problem solving

Expected Compensation $91,600 - $164,400/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
