Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of complex mechanical equipment and assemblies using SolidWorks. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of designs from concept through detailed design and fabrication while working across multiple active engineering projects.

Responsibilities

- Design and develop mechanical equipment, assemblies, and fabricated components using SolidWorks.
- Build robust parametric 3D models capable of accommodating multiple design revisions.
- Take ownership of the mechanical design of complete machines, assemblies, and equipment packages.
- Produce accurate, detailed, production-ready fabrication drawings.
- Develop drawings with sufficient detail for external fabrication partners to manufacture components with minimal clarification.
- Design fabricated steel components, structures, weldments, sheet metal components, and mechanical assemblies.
- Revise and update models throughout multiple iterations of the design process.
- Apply sound mechanical design and design-for-manufacturing/fabrication principles.
- Support engineering activities throughout the design, fabrication, and build process.
- Perform or support Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and mechanical simulation where applicable.
- Collaborate with other members of the engineering team to support multiple concurrent projects.

Essential Skills

- 2+ years of parametric modeling experience in SolidWorks involving fabricated equipment, structures, machinery, or comparable mechanical assemblies.
- 2+ years of experience creating detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
- Strong understanding of fabricated components, weldments, and welding symbols.
- Experience performing or supporting FEA and mechanical analysis.
- Experience with mechanical design, sheet metal, fabricated components, and assemblies.
- Ability to take mechanical designs from concept through detailed, production-ready documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience designing complete machines, industrial equipment, or large mechanical assemblies.
- Experience working with external fabrication or manufacturing vendors.
- Experience designing fabricated steel structures, frames, enclosures, and mechanical assemblies.
- Broader experience across both mechanical design and engineering analysis.
- Experience with 3D scanning, scan processing, or reverse engineering is considered an asset.
- Experience supporting equipment through fabrication, assembly, testing, or commissioning is an asset.

Work Environment

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining onsite collaboration with the flexibility to work remotely on designated days.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, BC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $43.27/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
Workplace Type
This is a hybrid position in Vancouver,BC.
