Job Title: Material Planner Job Description
The Material Planner plays a critical role in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment by managing demand, supply, and fulfillment planning within MRP systems. This position ensures that bills of materials, parts, and master data are accurately maintained in the ERP system, supports timely procurement and production activities, and creates clear visibility into material availability and readiness to build. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to support company-wide operational goals.
Responsibilities
- Manage demand, supply, and fulfillment planning within MRP to ensure materials are available to meet production and delivery requirements.
- Maintain bills of materials, parts data, and master data within the ERP system to ensure accuracy and alignment with current configurations.
- Release purchase planning messages to procurement in a timely manner to support on-time material acquisition.
- Issue work orders to production on schedule to support efficient manufacturing workflows.
- Update demand plans to reflect engineering change orders and communicate all material and schedule impacts clearly to procurement.
- Create and maintain visibility of material positions using line of balance reports, material shortage reports, clear-to-build reports, and similar tools.
- Produce material line of balance and conduct clear-to-build reviews to validate that materials are available for planned production.
- Apply material planning fundamentals to master data management, order policy, BOM management, and planning release and fulfillment processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams as a strong team player, working closely with other functional groups to achieve company-wide goals.
- Perform other duties related to material planning and data management as requested, in alignment with the scope of the role.
Essential Skills
- Experience with ERP systems and material planning processes.
- Demonstrated process improvement mindset in a manufacturing or aerospace environment.
- Hands-on material planning experience in aerospace or manufacturing settings.
- Proficiency in Excel and other MS Office applications for data analysis and reporting.
- Ability to produce material line of balance and conduct clear-to-build reviews.
- Strong knowledge of material planning fundamentals, including master data management, order policy, BOM management, and planning release and fulfillment.
- Proficiency in MRP systems for demand and supply planning.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, math, and statistics for accurate planning and analysis.
- Approximately 9 or more years of combined professional experience and education, such as a bachelors degree or equivalent years of work experience (totaling about 9+ years).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship, due to specific program requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a relevant field or equivalent years of work experience totaling approximately 9+ years.
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing environments.
- Experience leading or contributing to process improvement initiatives in material planning or supply chain.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with procurement, production, engineering, and other functional groups.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
Work Environment
This role operates in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment located in Long Beach. The Material Planner works closely with production, engineering, and procurement teams, using MRP and ERP systems, MS Office tools, and data analysis methods to support efficient operations. The environment emphasizes collaboration, responsiveness to engineering changes, and continuous improvement in planning processes.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Long Beach, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
