About this role
Adaptation & Resilience Pricing Analyst
Location: London
Contract Type: Permanent
Work Pattern: Full Time and Hybrid
MS Amlin’s ESG Re team is expanding rapidly to meet demand for innovative (re)insurance solutions that build resilience to climate risks, nature loss, socio-economic fragility and other systemic risks. We are seeking a commercially astute Risk Assessment & Pricing Specialist (actuarial, analytical, modelling or reinsurance pricing background) to build technical capability and scale global growth.
At MS Amlin, Sustainability is integral to how we grow profitably and responsibly, balancing business value with societal impact and the environment. Our goal is to make resilience insurable, scalable and commercially sustainable. This role suits someone who enjoys collaborating on complex risks while contributing to profitable growth and positive impact.
This role will act as the dedicated risk assessment and pricing capability for ESG Re and will be closely aligned with the Actuarial Pricing team. You will support the Head of Sustainability, ESG Re team, and Reinsurance function, applying structured analysis to emerging market risks, where insurance affordability and availability remain limited.
You will combine quantitative analysis with commercial judgment, supporting new revenue streams and deliver commercially grounded solutions. The role contributes to closing the global protection gap while enabling resilience and long-term value creation.
About the Job
As a Risk & Pricing Specialist, you’ll be at the forefront of supporting underwriting with technically robust, commercially informed insights, particularly across innovative resilience and adaptation solutions, spanning climate change, nature loss, evolving global health, conflict and migration and other systemic risks. While no two days are alike, here’s a snapshot of key responsibilities:
- Assess technical submissions spanning climate, nature, health, conflict & systemic risks, including exposure evaluation, structure review, expected loss estimation & rate-on-line guidance.
- Analyse data to build robust, transparent risk assessments & pricing approaches that support business objectives & enable scalable, commercially viable solutions.
- Challenge data, assumptions, catastrophe outputs & pricing methodologies to ensure technical rigour & alignment with MS Amlin’s view of risk and its Sustainability Strategy.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to the Head of Sustainability & Senior Underwriters, offering insight into expected loss calculations, pricing & renewal considerations, and treaty and portfolio structures including layer terms, loss histories & accumulation
- Translate unconventional or development-driven proposals into clear, insurable structures with disciplined pricing, strengthening ESG Re's ability to convert pipeline opportunities into bound business.
- Support the ESG Re Team in structuring innovative products (parametric, index-based, blended-finance-backed, sovereign risk pools, community schemes) that support adaptation finance and inclusive growth.
- Support market engagement by preparing technical insights for discussions with brokers, multilaterals, NGOs & humanitarians; help articulate our pricing rationale, risk appetite & product value propositions in the context of systemic risk reduction.
- Work cross-functionally across pricing, model development, data improvement and wider Sustainability initiatives.
You’re going to enjoy this job if you:
- Are motivated by the opportunity to create long-term, sustainable enterprise value by deploying commercially grounded underwriting, with a strong focus on adaptation finance, to build resilience in vulnerable communities.
- Maintain strong curiosity with industry trends, catastrophe modelling, climate-related risk developments and emerging best practices, particularly where models do not currently exist and new data partnerships / proxy data may be required.
- Have an entrepreneurial mindset and are excited by building new markets, not just operating in established ones.
- Have a passion for problem-solving and interrogating complex, unconventional datasets.
- Collaborate naturally across underwriting, actuarial, modelling, and analytics functions with the aim of improving technical processes, models and approaches.
What you’ll need:
For this particular role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. These include:
Essential:
- Experience in (re)insurance pricing, risk analysis, catastrophe modelling, or reinsurance underwriting.
- Strong capability in interpreting complex datasets, evaluating reinsurance structures and performing technical risk assessments.
- Confidence in challenging assumptions, pricing methodologies and modelled and non modelled outputs in emerging or data constrained environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Strong time management and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Working knowledge of catastrophe modelling, climate risk analytics, or parametric product design (including their limitations in emerging markets and developing economies).
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences, including external partners such as NGOs, development banks and governments.
Desirable:
- Exposure to climate adaptation, resilience finance, blended finance or public-sector risk transfer and the ability to interpret proposals through both commercial and social-impact lenses.
- Strong scientific, actuarial, data science, statistics or equivalent technical/analytical background (degree, PhD or equivalent).
- Experience in reinsurance treaty underwriting, portfolio management or structuring non-traditional risk transfer solutions.
- Experience leading complex projects aligned to strategic business objectives and partnering with diverse stakeholders across the resilience value chain.
- Proficiency in at least one analytical or modelling language (SQL, Python, R, VBA).
