Research Associate I

We are seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual to join the Broad Institute Cancer Program and participate in the development of novel therapeutics against cancer targets identified from genomic data. This position affords the unique opportunity to participate in the translation of basic science discoveries into therapeutic opportunities with a hybrid academic-industrial perspective. The successful candidate will work with a highly collaborative and multi-disciplinary team of scientists in a fast-paced environment and will participate in the design, execution, and analysis of a variety of standard and novel cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry assays.

Techniques will include but are not limited to mammalian cell tissue culture, site-directed mutagenesis, molecular cloning, CRISPR-based genome editing, cell viability assays, Western blotting, qRT-PCR gene expression analysis, and next-generation sequencing. Responsibilities include assay development and troubleshooting, investigating new methods, analyzing data, interpreting results, and clearly communicating results to the project team.

Characteristic duties:

- In consultation with the supervisor, conduct experiments involving standard molecular biology and mammalian tissue culture techniques.
- Understand and faithfully execute established experimental protocols.
- Diligently document experimental procedures, analyze data, and discuss results with supervisor in timely manner.
- Participate in standard lab maintenance work to ensure the functionality of lab equipment and maintain lab supply.
- Participate in internal and external team meetings to share results and plan experiments.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the team.

Required skills and abilities:

- Bachelor's degree in life sciences
- Solid foundational knowledge on molecular and cell biology; research experience involving relevant lab techniques highly desirable
- At least 1 year of undergraduate independent research exposure that comes from extracurricular engagements (outside of coursework)
- Strong work ethic and desire to learn and contribute to team science
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, diligent lab notebook practices and attention to details are essential.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule.
