Automation Engineer with PLC/DCS software experience, must have a valid EU Work Permit and Irish residency

Position: Automation Engineer.  Location: Kilkenny, Ireland.
PACIV, a global leader in industrial automation solutions with offices in Ireland, the United States and Puerto Rico, and serving the Life Science, F&B and Utilities industries, is looking for an Automation Engineer.  This is a site-based role.

Job Description
This role is an Automation Engineer working within a multinational manufacturing environment in County Kilkenny.
The Automation Engineer will initially focus on the development and implementation of control system software using Sattline. As the project progresses, the role will transition into commissioning and start-up activities, including I/O testing, water trials, Clean-In-Place (CIP) testing, and support during production runs.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for an automation professional to gain exposure to process manufacturing operations while working alongside experienced engineering and operations teams. Training and support will be provided to help the successful candidate develop an understanding of site processes and manufacturing systems.

Responsibilities of the Role

Automation Development
- Develop and modify Sattline control system software for tank farm operations.
- Support implementation of control strategies, interlocks, alarms and process sequences.
- Review and interpret functional design specifications and process requirements.
- Participate in software testing and validation activities.

Commissioning Activities
- Assist with commissioning and start-up activities across the project lifecycle.
- Perform I/O checks and loop testing.
- Support water testing and process verification activities.
- Assist with CIP commissioning and validation testing.
- Support production trials and initial operational runs.
- Troubleshoot automation and control system issues during commissioning.

Collaboration & Project Support
- Work closely with process engineers, operations personnel, maintenance teams and project stakeholders.
- Participate in project meetings and provide regular progress updates.
- Support documentation activities, including test records, punch lists and commissioning reports.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives throughout the project.

Requirements

Qualifications:
- A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Industrial Automation and Control systems, or equivalent.
- Applicants must have a valid Eu Work Permit and Irish residency .

Experience/Skills Required:
- Experience in industrial automation or control systems engineering.
- Ability to develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC/DCS software.
- Understanding of commissioning and startup activities.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret control system documentation and process drawings.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.

Training & Development
The successful candidate will receive:
- On-the-job Sattline system training where required.
- Support in developing an understanding of site manufacturing and process operations.
- Exposure to all phases of the project lifecycle, from software development through commissioning and production support.
- Guidance from experienced automation, project and operations personnel.
