Role Overview

As a Commissioning Engineer / Commissioning Manager, you will play a critical role in the successful delivery of Fluence energy storage projects across Germany. You will be responsible for leading commissioning activities from project planning through execution, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with internal teams, customers, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders, you will oversee commissioning processes, drive continuous improvement, and promote Fluence's strong safety culture. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on the successful deployment of clean energy infrastructure while collaborating with a diverse range of technical and project teams.

This position reports to the Germany Commissioning Manager and requires frequent travel to project sites.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead commissioning activities for utility-scale energy storage projects, ensuring safe, high-quality, and timely project execution.
- Champion and maintain Fluence's safety culture, ensuring compliance with established Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
- Develop comprehensive commissioning plans and schedules for large EPC projects.
- Execute commissioning activities in collaboration with construction managers, contractors, suppliers, telecommunications teams, and control system specialists.
- Define, develop, and implement testing protocols based on market regulations, utility requirements, customer specifications, and third-party agreements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to continuously improve project execution processes and commissioning standards.
- Implement regional and global commissioning processes and provide feedback to support ongoing process enhancement.
- Partner with Sales and Sales Engineering teams during project development to support planning, resource allocation, timelines, and execution strategies.
- Coordinate activities across multiple stakeholders to ensure project objectives are achieved efficiently and effectively.

Required Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commissioning, project execution, operations, or a closely related technical field.
- Demonstrated experience leading and promoting safety initiatives within operational or industrial environments.
- Proven ability to solve complex technical challenges using structured problem-solving methods and data-driven analysis.
- Experience managing business processes related to project execution, project reporting, change management, workforce planning, and operational performance.
- Strong project planning, organization, and coordination skills across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at multiple levels within customer and partner organizations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Practical experience with SCADA systems and MODBUS communications.
- Fluent German and English language skills, both written and spoken.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 80% of the time.

Additional Skills

- Experience in the renewable energy, battery energy storage, power generation, utilities, or electrical infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with SAP or equivalent enterprise reporting and asset management systems.
- Experience working on large-scale EPC projects.
- Knowledge of grid integration, utility commissioning requirements, and power system testing.
- Strong continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify and implement operational efficiencies.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and highly organized approach to work.
