DBA (Snowflake+SQL Server+Azure)

We are seeking a hands-on Database Administrator (DBA) to join our Data & Analytics team as an embedded resource. The successful candidate will provide operational and administrative support across our Snowflake data platform and Microsoft SQL Server environments hosted both on-premises and in Microsoft Azure.

The DBA will work closely with data engineering, infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure database availability, performance, security, and reliability while helping build internal database management capabilities through documentation, mentoring, and knowledge transfer.

Requirements

Snowflake Administration

- Manage Snowflake security, RBAC, user provisioning, and access governance.
- Monitor and optimize warehouse performance, compute utilization, and costs.
- Support data ingestion pipelines using Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks, Dynamic Tables, and external stages.
- Implement security controls including masking policies, row-level security, and network policies.
- Manage backup, recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery processes.
- Support integrations with Microsoft Azure, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric.
- Conduct performance tuning and query optimization activities.

SQL Server Administration

- Administer SQL Server environments across on-premises and Azure.
- Perform installations, patching, upgrades, migrations, and configurations.
- Manage backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Troubleshoot performance issues using Query Store, execution plans, indexing strategies, and monitoring tools.
- Configure and maintain SQL Server security, auditing, encryption, and compliance controls.
- Support Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.

Azure & Automation

- Manage database-related Azure resources and services.
- Configure Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Key Vault, networking, and private endpoints.
- Develop automation scripts using PowerShell, T-SQL, Azure CLI, and Python.
- Support Infrastructure as Code implementations using Bicep, ARM templates, and Azure DevOps pipelines.

Monitoring & Operations

- Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and security.
- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and problem management.
- Maintain runbooks, SOPs, architecture documentation, and operational standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to improve database reliability and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

- 3 to 5 years of hands-on Database Administration experience.
- 2+ years of Snowflake administration experience in production environments.
- Strong experience with: Microsoft SQL Server (2016-2022)
- Azure SQL Database
- Azure SQL Managed Instance
- SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines

- Strong proficiency in: T-SQL
- PowerShell
- Azure CLI
- Python scripting

- Experience with: Azure Monitor
- Log Analytics
- Microsoft Entra ID
- Azure Key Vault
- Azure DevOps
- Microsoft 365 Collaboration Suite (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook)

- Knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions including: Always On Availability Groups
- Failover Clustering
- Geo-Replication
- Backup and Recovery strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience administering MySQL and PostgreSQL environments.
- Experience managing containerized databases using Docker and Docker Compose.
- Familiarity with Azure Database for MySQL and Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
- Exposure to Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and data integration platforms.
- Experience with SQL monitoring tools such as SQL Sentry or Redgate
