Career Specialist

The Career Specialist is an entry level position that guides students through career exploration, helps prepare students for work-based learning and internship opportunities, and assists with job searches and graduate school processes.

Job Duties:

Career Advising

- Facilitate individual and group career exploration to students, including assessment of interests, values, skills, and career pathways.

- Facilitate opportunities for students to explore strengths, interests, and potential career directions through structured experiences and activities.

- Assist students in preparing for work-based learning experiences, internships, employment, and graduate or professional programs.

- Assist students in preparing their personal documents for job searches or graduate applications.

- Support development of career readiness skills, including communication, professionalism, and job search strategies.

Career Services Program Development

- Assist in the development and implementation of EDGE programming.

- Assist in the development of partnerships with university and community stakeholders.

- Assist the Director of the Center with long-range goals in the program area.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, student services administration, higher education, human resources or related field from an accredited institution (experience in higher education and/or Master’s degree preferred);

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent communication, organizational and time management, problem solving and decision making, and customer service skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other office and record-keeping systems.

Experience : Previous experience in college career services or similar experience in career development in a business environment (preferred).

License/Certification: Professional certification in career development (e.g., NCDA, GCDF) or related area preferred.
