About the job.

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Technician to join our Drainage Team in the East region. As a Technician within Operations, you will support the development and maintenance of drainage assets and schemes for our Capital Works Programme, consisting of road safety, improvement and asset renewal schemes throughout the region.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have a full driving licence to be considered for this position and during employment. This role may also require you to work unsociable hours.

- Carry out site visits and audit cyclic drainage maintenance undertaken by contractors, as well as collect drainage asset and condition data to help prioritise future maintenance.

- Support the response to flooding incidents and customer or Highway Inspector enquiries, including undertaking site investigations, reviewing flood events and helping to identify appropriate mitigation and future maintenance priorities.

- Support the capture, maintenance and accuracy of drainage asset data and condition information in the relevant database, including reviewing and uploading survey and CCTV information.

- Support the identification and management of drainage asset studies and survey works, contributing to the development of early solutions and technical briefs for improvement and renewal schemes in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.

- Support reviews of third-party and major project designs from a drainage maintenance and flood-risk perspective, working with relevant teams and contractors to support effective scheme development and delivery.

About you.

- Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highways network.

- Higher National Diploma/Certificate or other relevant qualification with relevant experience, or working towards.

- Experience working with databases.

- Experience in highway construction and delivery methods.

- Experience in AutoCAD/ArcGIS (desirable).

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
