Senior Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure, Asset Management

Job Summary

As a Senior Engineer you will be considered a technical expert in cloud infrastructure, deployment automation, infrastructure-as-code practices, environment operations and monitoring capabilities to support business critical digital platforms. Platforms include AWS-hosted services, Adobe Experience Manager cloud services, Jenkins-based automation, Terraform-managed infrastructure and SFTP/File processing and related data integrations. You will determine specifications, plan, design, and develop business critical technology solutions, utilizing appropriate engineering processes - either individually or in collaboration with the data infrastructure and digital experience teams.

This Senior Engineer has engineering technology expertise in AWS and Adobe Experience Manager cloud services.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Designing Solutions

- Apply technical knowledge to drive outcomes for customers
- Ability to work and problem solve independently on initiatives that align to the broader software engineering strategy
- Support cloud environment provisioning, cleanup, and cost optimization.

Developing Software

- Member of team that can work independently, as well as collaboratively with team, in developing core software for the product that delivers outcomes.
- Manage AWS services including S3, IAM, Route 53, CloudFront, EC2, VPCs, Security Groups, WAF, ACM, load balancers, networking, certificates, DNS in order to meet/exceed the teams expectations for site stability, scalability, resilience, etc.

Learning and Applying New Techniques

- Shares new ideas and techniques with team, stay up to date with AEM and AWS related enhancements and Dev/Ops practices.

Collaborating within the Team

- Participate in team’s collaboration sessions to provide technical expertise to solve a problem/remove technical roadblocks for the team
- Participate in product planning and implementation. Helps team to understand and decompose work

Defining Engineering Standards and Patterns

- Contribute to develop engineering practices, templates and frameworks in collaboration with the team.
- Ensure cloud resources are secure, documented, recoverable and aligned with operational standards

- Lead the continued implementation and operationalization of Terraform across AWS and related infrastructure.

- Support Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service environments, Cloud Manager pipelines, content deployment processes, package movement, and environment synchronization.

- Partner with engineering and data teams to evaluate additional infrastructure automation opportunities

DevOps

- Continuously assessing technology to build more stable, scalable, and resilient software; Use data to measure progress
- Promote and expand on the use of the CI/CD pipeline to improve the deployment and build process. Administer and improve Jenkins jobs and automation workflows.
- Support cloud environment access control and infrastructure governance.
- Maintain source control practices using Git/Bitbucket/GitHub
- Participates in the team support rotation and provides expert knowledge on focus subsystems.

Selecting & Managing Technology Vendors

- Contribute to define the selection criteria for selecting the right technology vendors .
- Participate in proof of concept / technology along with the vendor

Production Support, Monitoring & Reliability

- Provide operational support for production and non-production environments.

- Troubleshoot platform outages, failed jobs, data load issues, deployment failures, access issues, and infrastructure incidents.

- Perform root-cause analysis and implement sustainable fixes.

- Improve monitoring, alerting, runbooks, dashboards, and operational reporting.

- Support incident response, vendor escalations, and recurring production support needs.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Required:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field or equivalent work experience
- 7+ years of experience in engineering environments, taking abstract concepts and ideas and formulating a detailed software engineering plan to deliver
- 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or related technology roles.
- Strong AWS administration experience.
- Strong Terraform and Infrastructure-as Code experience.

- Experience with Jenkins or comparable CI/CD automation platforms.

- Working knowledge of cloud networking, DNS, certificates, IAM, WAF, security groups, and access management.

- Sound knowledge of industry standard Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices

- Sound knowledge of version and revision control practices and procedures including experience with Git-based source control and deployment workflows.

- Sound knowledge of systems design concepts that provide security and stability
- Expertise in debugging code and/or complex log files for troubleshooting and analysis of product defects
- Expert knowledge/experience with querying databases for complex data lookup/update
- Perform code reviews with associate team members.

Preferred:

- Scripting or automation experience using PowerShell, Bash, Python or similar tools.

- Adobe Experience Manager or AEM as a Cloud Service experience.

- SQL Server, Windows Server, or database infrastructure support experience.

- SFTP administration and vendor file integration experience.

- Snowflake, API integration, or data platform experience.

- Experience supporting financial services, investment data, regulatory content, fund/ETF data, or marketing technology platforms.

- AWS certification, HashiCorp Terraform certification, or comparable cloud/platform credentials.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, New Relic, CloudWatch, or similar platforms.

This is a hybrid working arrangement, in office Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $104,063.00 - $140,793.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
