Assistant Retail Store Manager

Summary: The Assistant Retail Store Manager supports the daily operations of the store by delivering exceptional customer service, driving sales growth, managing inventory, and assisting with employee supervision. This role serves as a key leader within the store, helping ensure operational efficiency, product availability, and a positive customer experience for professional contractors and retail consumers. The Assistant Manager works closely with the Store Manager to achieve sales objectives, maintain safety and compliance standards and fosters a productive team environment.

Role & Responsibilities:

- Assist in overseeing daily store operations, including sales, merchandising, inventory management, and customer service.

- Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, property managers, and retail customers.

- Consult with customers to understand project goals, style preferences, budgets, and timelines.

- Provide expert product recommendations and technical support related to paints, coatings, stains, and other associated products.

- Handle customer concerns and resolve issues professionally and efficiently.

- Clearly explain product features, benefits, installation requirements and maintenance expectations.

- Process customer orders accurately and efficiently

- Support sales initiatives by identifying opportunities to increase revenue and customer retention.

- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and coaching store employees.

- Monitor inventory levels, place orders, receive shipments, and ensure accurate stock management.

- Ensure the store maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

- Support cash handling procedures, opening and closing responsibilities, and daily financial reconciliations.

- Assist with delivery coordination and operational logistics as needed.

- Partners with our Safety Department and Operations Leadership to promote and ensure a safe work environment and ensure all safety precautions are met.

- Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Hours: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm

Qualifications:

The individual must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication skills as well as proven customer service. Previous retail management, paint industry, building materials or customer service experience preferred. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities. Ability to lift and move paint products and materials up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work under minimal supervision, manage multiple tasks and interact with others in a professional manner.

Education Requirements:

Position requires a High School Diploma or GED; one or more years of previous retail or customer service experience preferred.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in paint, home improvement, flooring, cabinetry, interior design, window coverings or related industries. Experience working with contractors, builders or interior designers. Working knowledge of computers and various computer programs.

Physical Demands

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The employee is required to talk and hear, and use hands to finger keyboard, telephone and handle other objects.  The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.  Vision required for this job includes close vision (clear vision within 20 inches).  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to ascend and descend stairs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.

Work Environment

For the most part, the work environment has ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical retail store environment.  May be required to make deliveries to job sites.
