We have an extraordinary opportunity for a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team as a Per Diem Overnight Residential Nurse .

Guiding Eyes provides on-campus housing for visually impaired students, age 16 and older, during their two-week guide dog training program. As a Residential Nurse , you will help ensure the well-being of students by providing a safe, supportive environment and contributing to a positive residential experience throughout their stay on campus.

In this role, you will support students participating in the training program, provide excellent care, and perform established processes in accordance with Guiding Eyes policies. Responsibilities include oversight of evening activities, maintaining an active and accessible presence for students, managing medical concerns, and responding to problems or emergencies that may arise. You will also assist students and their guide dogs in navigating the campus safely and provide support with basic dog-care activities, including supervision in the relief area.

This position is onsite at our campus in Yorktown Heights, NY and requires overnight stays during assigned shifts. Typical shift hours are 4:30pm to 6:30 am.  Meals and a private room are provided during shifts .

The Role

- Provide overnight medical care and support for students staying in the residential program.
- Respond appropriately to safety concerns, medical issues, and emergencies.
- Assist students in managing chronic health conditions or mobility-related concerns.
- Ensure students self-administer prescribed medications as directed by their Healthcare Provider(s) and adhere to any prescribed dietary or allergy-related restrictions.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in accordance with company policy.
- Complete brief shift reports and communicate effectively with nursing team members as well as daytime staff.
- Help maintain a safe, supportive, and respectful residential environment while promoting student independence.
- Provide assistance with general student needs as appropriate.
- Promote and supervise evening activities.
- Explain guide dog positioning and behavior to students as needed.
- Assess the need for emergency veterinary care and follow established protocols (training provided).
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications You Will Need

- Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- Experience in a healthcare setting, preferably within residential, rehabilitation, disability support, or similar environments.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Ability to accurately assess situations and make sound decisions independently.
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage overnight responsibilities.
- A warm, compassionate approach and the ability to build rapport with students while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, integrity, and punctuality.
- This is an essential personnel position. Availability to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on program needs, is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; Salesforce savvy a plus.
- Comfortable working around large, active dogs.
- Valid driver's license.

Salary: $50.00/hour
