Job Summary

We are currently seeking a summer 2027 intern in the Corporate Engineering Mechanics (EM) group located at Dominion’s Innsbrook Technical Center in Glen Allen, VA. The Corporate EM group supports Dominion’s four nuclear power plant sites (two in Virginia, one in South Caroline, and one in Connecticut) and is responsible for ensuring piping and equipment at the plants are structurally supported in accordance with code and regulatory requirements for design load conditions including seismic. Corporate EM also ensures that mechanical and electrical equipment is designed and installed to assure they perform as expected for all design loadings. The individual in this role will work within a group of subject matter experts performing the duties outlined below:

- Preparation of mathematical models utilizing PC-based computer codes or hand-calculation methods to qualify the piping and supporting structures for all applicable loading combinations, including seismic, thermal and fluid transient loading.

- Review in-service inspection findings (i.e., thinned areas / weld flaws) against applicable design codes (ASME Section III or Section XI) to determine acceptability for continued service. This includes the use of fracture mechanics techniques as required for flaw evaluations.

- Documenting results of engineering analyses in calculations and other engineering products.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Knowledge of basic electrical theories and principles is required.

- Experience with Microsoft Office products is desired. Proficiency in MS Excel with Macros is preferred.

- Must be able to follow instructions and be a team player.

- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Solid engineering skills, commensurate with grade level.

- Good communication skills, technical writing skills, and computer skills.

- An inquisitive nature, an ability to follow written and verbal directions, and strong professional ethics

Education Requirements

- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering in an ABET accredited program

- Must have a graduation date in 2028 or 2029

- Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher

Hourly Rate:

$23.00 - $29.00

The hourly rate listed is the rate we anticipate paying for this position. If a range is listed, the actual hourly rate offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate's degree type, academic major, and/or school classification (e.g., sophomore, junior, senior).
