About the Role

The Mechanical Applications Engineer I is responsible for developing project-specific layouts and technical solutions for specialty elevator equipment while ensuring compliance with customer specifications, engineering standards, and manufacturing requirements. This position collaborates with Sales, Customer Service, Estimating, Engineering, and Manufacturing to confirm product functionality, resolve technical issues, and support retrofit and custom projects. The role requires proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor, strong analytical and communication skills, and close attention to quality and production standards. The position works both independently and collaboratively to deliver accurate, practical, and timely engineering solutions.

Requirements

We are searching for a candidate with:

- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field with up to 2 years of relevant experience; or an Associate degree in a related technical field with 2–5 years of relevant experience.

- Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or similar CAD software

- Strong analytical, math, and problem-solving skills.

- Exceptional work ethic, time management, and organizational skills.

- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

- Excellent communication and organizational skills.

- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision when required.

Preferred Qualifications

- Basic understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing, and engineering principles.

- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material (BOMs), and technical documentation.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify missing, conflicting, or incomplete technical information.

- Basic understanding of dimensional tolerances, mechanical components, and manufacturing processes.

- Ability to learn and work with engineering and business systems such as Tacton CPQ, Visual ERP, and DocuWare.

- Ability to manage multiple orders and priorities while maintaining accuracy.

- Previous experience with elevator door equipment or related mechanical equipment is preferred but not required.

Duties and Responsibilities

A typical day may include:

- Review and interpret customer requirements, specifications, drawings, surveys, and order information.

- Analyzes job requirements and configures the appropriate applications and equipment using a CPQ system

- Reviews and modifies bills of materials, parts and material requirements using an ERP system.

- Process retrofitting projects that may require modification of company products and equipment.

- Communicate and collaborate with various departments such as Customer Service, Estimating, Sales, and Manufacturing to ensure client specifications are met.

- Problem solves and answer questions about the technical functionality of mechanical equipment.

- Provide technical support for mechanical products.

- Orchestrate both simple and complex tasks with limited supervision. Daily responsibilities will depend on the employees ability to produce results from existing limited solutions and to maintain a professional attitude.

- Participate in information gathering calls and/or meetings with clients to determine the clients' needs, and desired outcomes. These meetings may involve job site visits, and surveying that may lead to job specific product development.

- Present information and new ideas for review and possible implementation into new and existing products

- Review and understand product design changes related to elevator equipment.

Work Environment & Hazards

- General office environment.

- Must be able to remain sedentary for extended periods of time.

- 10%-30% of the time may be spent on the manufacturing floor.

- Risk of injury on manufacturing floor.

Special Physical Demands

- Limited physical effort. Requires occasional moving of materials and equipment.

- Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
